The Blessing With Purpose
There's a blessing and a promise from God awaiting all who follow Him.
No matter which walk of life you come from, you are blessed when you come to know Jesus. With that privilege, we have also been given a purpose.
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
- Matthew 5:16
This beautiful morning I'm going straight into the Word of God and I want to tell you that Jesus had a short ministry when he was on this planet and he went from city to city preaching the good news of the kingdom of heaven. He healed every kind of sickness and every kind of disease. The Bible says he healed the oppressed and freed them from unclean spirits, and people followed him everywhere he went and the news about him spread throughout the land, in neighboring countries and regions, and people brought to him all who were ill, those who were suffering with various kinds of diseases and pains the Bible says demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics, and he healed them all. The Bible says he even raised the dead, hallelujah. And I want to tell you this morning, the crowds were always surrounding him and following him everywhere he went. And I want to share with you today a time when Jesus speaks with his disciples and a crowd at the same time, and it is documented in two books in the Bible the book of Matthew and in the book of Luke. And in one of the books Jesus climbs up a mountain and his disciples and the crowds follow after him, and then he sits down at a place and begins to teach them. The Bible says, and in another, in another book, jesus goes up to the mountain and he spends the night there praying and at daybreak he calls his disciples to him and he chooses 12 of them as apostles and then he comes down the mountain to a level place and, as I said, there are crowds there already followers of Jesus and people who want to be healed, and he begins to teach his disciples and the crowds that are gathered there. But that's not the important part this morning and this day. What I want to share with you today is important and it is about what Jesus taught his disciples and the crowds.
Speaker 1:And before I get into it, I want to tell you that Moses was on a mountain when God gave him the commandments, and here Jesus is on a mountain too, and I've said it in the past and I'll say it again when you read the New Testament or you look at the New Testament and it just changes everything. Everything in the Old Testament as against the New Testament changes in the New Testament, I'm sorry, against. The Old Testament changes completely Through Jesus, because now he has come on the planet. It changes through his blood. It changes through planet. It changes through his blood. It changes through the cross, it changes through his name, and this is the first time that people are given direction by Jesus and he speaks with authority, as always, the way of life he is giving authority, as always the way of life he's giving you and me.
Speaker 1:And he starts with a blessing and I'm going to share it with you from the book of Matthew, and I want to tell you this morning, before I even get into it, some of you will feel God's presence very strongly today and enjoy it. Bask in his presence, be filled with his love and know this morning that you will be blessed through the words of Jesus today Hallelujah. And this part in the Bible is called the Sermon on the Mount, it's called the Beatitudes, and I'm going straight into it. Matthew, the 5th chapter, the 3rd verse. It says blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Hallelujah. Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Hallelujah. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. There are many ways to look at this. You are blessed when you have nothing to depend on but God. Those times in life when you are a dimly burning wick, you depend on Him, not on your own smarts or the smarts of the people around you, and he will come and help you. And the Bible says he will not extinguish you you. He will bring for justice to all your situations and he will bless you. And that's what he is telling you this morning. Blessed are the poor in spirit. This is not poor, not somebody who does not have enough of cash. This is poor in the spirit. That's when you bring yourself down to nothing and you depend on him completely. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And then he goes on to say blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Oh, jesus is our help. And yes, it happens to us all A time of mourning. Even the Bible says there's a time to mourn and a time to be joyous. And yes, there are times when you break down, for whatever reason. Jesus came in human form on this planet. He knows your emotions, he knows your feelings, he knows and he's familiar with them and he's your comforter and your counselor. And the Bible says in Psalm 34, 18, the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Oh, hallelujah, you'll be blessed and comforted this morning. If you are in a time of mourning, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth, and blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Meek, not weak. Meek M-E-E-K is defined in the Bible as gentle, patient, calm, showing restraint, just like Jesus. Just like Jesus, not weak. Jesus doesn't say weak, he says meek. And yes, he is the good shepherd and yes, he is also the Lion of the tribe of Judah. But what he's telling you this morning is blessed are you who are humble in the spirit, and you shall inherit the whole earth. Amen. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. As simple in spirit, humble in the spirit, hallelujah. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Let me tell you blessed are those who seek Jesus. That's what the scripture means. Blessed are those who seek Jesus and who hunger and thirst for him. He is the righteousness. He is the righteousness on this planet. Seek him and you will find him, and you will be satisfied and you will be blessed, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And then he goes on to say blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. This needs no explanation. Those of you who know the language understand it and it's so beautifully put Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy, even when they put him on the cross. The very same people who he healed, who he delivered. Those very same people, when they put him on the cross, he said father, forgive them. So they know not what they do. Oh, hallelujah, hallelujah, merciful Jesus. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. And blessed are the poor. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Oh, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Matthew 5.8 says blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Oh, everyone wants to see God. Oh, I am heart, for they shall see God. Oh, everyone wants to see God. Oh, I'm sure you want to see God. Hallelujah, jesus has purchased you and cleansed you by his blood. He's paid a heavy price for you and me.
Speaker 1:And keep his word daily. And let me tell you, ephesians 5.26 says you will be washed in his word. Oh, hallelujah, oh, that's how you will be pure in heart. Keep his word daily. And Ephesians 5.26 go and mark it. Says you will be washed in his word daily. And Ephesians 5 26 go and mark it says you will be washed in his word and you will be pure in heart and you will see God. But you better be, you better be prepared for it. Hallelujah. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Speaker 1:Oh, blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Oh, don't be the person who instigates situations. You can just go back to the definition of meek. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Oh, hallelujah, blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil things against you because of me. Oh, hallelujah, that's 5, 10 and 11. Jesus also tells his disciples that's 5, 10 and 11.
Speaker 1:Jesus also tells his disciples in the book of John, the 15th chapter, the 20th verse. Remember the word that I said to you a slave is not greater than his master. A slave is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. Oh, but don't worry about it. Don't worry about it.
Speaker 1:This beautiful day, god is already telling you that in case that happens to happen. It doesn't say that it will happen. But in case you have to go down that road where you will be persecuted, in the name of Jesus, let me tell you you are blessed For the sake of righteousness. I already told you Jesus is righteousness. For his sake, you will be blessed, oh hallelujah, and you are given the kingdom of heaven. And blessed are you when people insult you or they persecute you and say all kinds of things against you. Jesus said they did it to me, they will do it to you. False accusations against you, getting persecuted no problem, it's a blessing. Remember, the battle does not belong to you. The battle does not belong to you or me. It is the Lord who fights for you. Hallelujah, hallelujah. Matthew 5, 12 says rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Oh hallelujah, oh, you have a great reward in heaven, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And then this morning I want to leave you with something very important, what I'd like to call as a new age JD, a new age job description that Jesus gives us. I told you Old Testament, new Testament, look at things differently. Yes, moses had laws and we all had those laws, but after Jesus comes, he changes things. The Bible also says it's it's the wisdom of God to unravel those secrets in the Bible, in Jesus' beautiful parables and his beautiful examples and his stories. But I want to tell you his new laws. They're not complex. There's nothing complex about it. It's just as simple, as clear as day. Just believe in the name of Jesus the name that's above all names, and what he did on that cross for you and me. That's it. It's as simple as that. And I want to tell you, once you are in that place, you and I are his apostles. I told you, one version in the Bible talks about him praying on the mountain the whole night and at daybreak he calls them.
Speaker 1:He calls his disciples and he picks 12 apostles from them and you go to your dictionarycom or wherever you need to go to find out the meaning of the word apostle and the meaning of the word disciple, and I want to tell you this morning that you are his apostle. Oh, you are so much more to him. Believe me on that. But align to today's word and you and I have the helper with us at all times. He said I go and I leave you a helper, and here goes and I'm reading it to you directly from the word of God, matthew, the fifth chapter, matthew 5,13-16 verse. Pay attention to these words from Jesus to you and me.
Speaker 1:You are the salt of the earth. Oh, hallelujah. You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light to the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden, nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand instead, and it gives light to all who are in the house. O, let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. O Hallelujah, o Hallelujah, o Hallelujah, hallelujah, oh Hallelujah. You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world, and let your light shine before men that they know who is your father and they'll glorify your father. That's your job. Those who hear will. Those who are here will understand in their spirit. You have to go and spread the good news of Jesus and what he did on the cross, and how he died and rose again, and how he is alive and seated at the right hand of God. You are salt to the earth, people. This is Jesus's words. Well, if it's shaking your spirit, then it is meant to shake your spirit this morning and this day. You are salt to the earth. You do not want to be saltless or tasteless, as the bible calls it. You are light to the world. You are not to be hidden. You are the one who is set at the hilltop to give light to others. You are the one who is in the house to give light to everyone in that household. Oh hallelujah, you don't know how to do it. Just go tell someone about Jesus. Just go share this link with someone and become salt and light that Jesus is calling you today. That's the salt and light that Jesus is calling you today. That's the salt and light that he is referring to this beautiful day.
Speaker 1:Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Speaker 1:Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and falsely say all kind of evil things against you. Because of me, rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, for in the same way they persecute the prophets who were before you and people of the most high this morning, you are salt of the earth, but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden, nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand instead, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men In such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Speaker 1:Oh, hallelujah, the Lord. I thank you for this beautiful word. I thank you for your beautiful presence. I thank you for your love. I thank you for what you did on that cross for us, lord. Oh, I thank you, lord, that people can feel you, lord. Thank you, jesus, holy, holy, holy, holy Lord, god Almighty, who was and is and is to come, and thank you for this beautiful blessing, lord, that you have released this morning into everyone's lives and through this word, they are blessed Because they are your children. Thank you, lord, for this beautiful time, thank you for this, thank you for this day. We rejoice in it and gladden it. Thank you, lord. In Jesus name, I pray Amen.
