Fruit Of The Spirit
Building on last week's message, how do we actually go about fulfilling the great commandment set by Jesus?
Tune in to this week's episode as we explore how help is always with us—even to accomplish the impossible.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
- Galatians 5:22-23 NASB1995
This beautiful day, I'm going to get straight into the word of God. And we heard last week about Jesus talking about the great commandment when he was asked by a Pharisee Teacher what is the great commandment in the law and as documented in the book of Matthew, 22, 37, verse onwards. I am reading it to you. Jesus said to him you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Oh hallelujah. So we know now the great commandment. It says love God. And the second is just like it, which means it's just as the first is love your neighbor. And then you know the. We went into the book of Corinthians, the 13th chapter, which defines love for you and me very clearly. So we have no doubt what love is and what love means, and you can read it in your time, in your own time, in your time that you spend with God or at the time that you want to meditate. It's in the book of 1 Corinthians, the 13th chapter, the fourth verse onwards, and then in the 13th verse of the same chapter, 1 Corinthians 13,. 13 says and now, abide faith, hope, love these three, but the greatest of these is love, oh hallelujah. I want to tell you that Jesus could not make it any more clearer when he was speaking about the great commandment, and it's documented as clear as you'd like in this passage of scripture Now, abide faith, hope, love these three, but the greatest of these is love. Oh hallelujah. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Oh hallelujah on these two laws. In all, it's all on love. It's all on love. I want to tell you that, you know, walking on water is an act of faith. Having faith is a big thing. And then hope is nothing else but another version, again aligned to the word faith. Faith is being sure of the things hoped for. You see, hope is faith, and then there's love. So basically, faith and hope is encompassed as one, according to the word of God. And then there's love. And then Corinthians clearly tells you the greatest is love, and then everything the law and the prophets hangs on love. And you need to understand it. And it's a very difficult thing. It's a very difficult thing to stand in god's love. It's very difficult to forgive someone, it's very difficult to let people go. We're human. But hey, it's the word of god.
Speaker 1:And today I want to take you to a time in the life of somebody by the name of Paul and some of you might know Paul and some of you might not, but I want to tell you that Paul was initially called Saul. His name used to be Saul and, just if you didn't know, he used to persecute anyone who was doing Jesus's work or God's work, or spreading the kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven. He used to come against them. And just for some of you who don't know, he is first mentioned in the Bible at the stoning of a person whose name is Stephen, who was again doing Jesus' work and I'm not getting into that, but that's the first time Saul is mentioned in the Bible. And then it goes on to say that from that day on, a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem and Saul was spearheading it. The Bible says they were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria.
Speaker 1:After the stoning of a person by the name of Stephen who was preaching the good news, a persecution begins against the church in Jerusalem and everyone is now scattered in Judea and Samaria, and I want you to understand and picture the situation, this persecution. People are being picked up in the Bible, but Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house and dragging off men and women and putting them in prison. Oh, wow, he went hammer and tongs against Jesus' work and Jesus' disciples and Jesus' church and Jesus' preaching Jesus' church and Jesus' preaching Jesus' work. He was destroying the work of Jesus and going after the people and the disciples. And I want to tell you one day well, this is the background of Paul and, as I said, he was called Saul. And one day, when he's on his way to Damascus, as I said, now he's a man with an agenda, and now he's taking it from place to place, and now he's on his way to Damascus on the same agitated agenda against people doing Jesus's work. And the Bible says a light from heaven flashed around him and he fell to the ground and a voice said to him the book of Acts.
Speaker 1:I'm reading to you from the book of Acts, the ninth chapter, fourth verse onwards Saul, saul, why are you persecuting me? And he said who are you, lord? And he said I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting, but get up and enter the city and it will be told you what you must do. Oh, hallelujah, wow. So Jesus is watching Saul. Of course he's watching everything, but he's watching Saul until a point he's watching everything, but he's watching Saul until a point he intervenes at Damascus and he says why are you persecuting me? And Saul even asks who are you, lord? And he says I am Jesus, who you are persecuting? Get up, go into the city and I will tell you what you must do, hallelujah. And I want to tell you that there were men traveling with Saul, and the Bible says they stood there speechless, hearing the voice, but could see nothing and no one. And so, as it goes, saul gets up from the ground, the Bible says and though his eyes were open, he could not see anything and was led by hand into Damascus. So God takes away his sight, jesus takes away his sight, and the Bible now goes on to say that three days Saul has no sight, and neither does he eat or drink. You can read it.
Speaker 1:It's in the book of Acts, the ninth chapter, and it so happens that jesus sends someone by the name of ananias or ananias whatever however you'd like to pronounce it to pray for him. And there's this time when ananias is even talking to god, saying isn't it the same saul who's massively persecuting us? Why would you want me to go and pray for him? And there's this time when Ananias is even talking to God, saying isn't it the same Saul who's massively persecuting us? Why would you want me to go and pray for him, hallelujah. And the bible says and Jesus says I'm going to use him, he's part of my plan. Oh, hallelujah, he is part of my plan, oh Hallelujah. Ah. And Ananias goes there and Saul's eyes are opened after Ananias prays for him and he gets baptized. And then he starts to follow the disciples who are preaching at Damascus and in time, let me me tell you, begins to proclaim Jesus as the son of God in the synagogues oh, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Let me tell you, later on his name will be changed from Saul to Paul and the Bible records, by calling out his name, that God was performing extraordinary miracles at the hands of Paul. Oh, hallelujah. This is from the Bible. People, god was performing extraordinary miracles at the hands of Paul. And let me tell you so much that the Bible says handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body to the sick and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out. What Hallelujah? Oh hallelujah. That didn't even happen with Jesus, oh hallelujah. Paul must have had something in him. He's the same guy, saul, who was persecuting what Jesus was doing, but he must have had something in him. God knows everything. Jesus knows everything. He is the beginning and the end. He must have known something about Paul, where he decided to use him, where his handkerchiefs and aprons were healing people. Wow, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And I want to tell you, for most of you who don't know, paul also wrote the book of Galatians. He wrote letters to the church at Galatia. And today's a bit deep, but I'd like you to stay with me and stick with the word of God and pay attention. And before I go into the book of Galatians, I want to tell you Jesus said when he was on this planet I'm taking you back to the time of Jesus now and he was with his disciples and he's now preparing them of what's about to happen. And he says in the book of John, the 14th chapter, the 15th verse if you love me, you will keep my commandments. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. Oh, I love you, lord, and I will. I will keep your commandments. And today I'm going to relate the scripture to the great commandment love your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. And this morning Jesus is telling you if you love me, you will keep my commandment. And then he goes on to tell his disciples, because now they're worried. He's telling them about what's about to happen. And listen to this from the book of john, the 14th chapter, the 16th to 18th verse. It's a bit deep, but pay attention and stick with me this morning.
Speaker 1:Last week we heard about love and how important love is and that, how the law and the prophets and the prophecies and every blessing that is ye and amen in the bible is in love. Between faith, hope, love, the greatest is love. And then I briefly gave you a synopsis of who saul was, who today and later became paul. Saul was who today and later became Paul. And now I'm coming back to Jesus, where he's telling people about what's happening. And now he says I will ask the Father and he will give you another helper that he may be with you forever.
Speaker 1:Oh, hallelujah, that is the spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it does not see him or know him, but you know him because he abides with you and will be in you, and I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you. Hallelujah, oh hallelujah, some of you can feel I will come to you. Hallelujah, oh hallelujah, some of you can feel the presence of God right now. Hallelujah, it's Jesus' words, and that's exactly what he left his disciples with. I'm not leaving you as an orphan. Yes, I'm your father. I'm not leaving you. There's another helper coming, who is always going to be with you. He will be with you forever. Hallelujah, it's the spirit of truth, oh, hallelujah. And jesus left this planet, but he gave us help, the helper, the holy spirit, the beautiful spirit of God, who is with us forever. Oh hallelujah. When Jesus broke the news to his disciples that he has to go, and just before he breaks this news, he also says if you love me, keep my commandments. And his great commandment is love the Lord and love your neighbor. And then he says I'm leaving you with a helper, because he knows it's not going to be easy, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And now, after the whole story of Saul turning into Paul, I'm taking you to the book of Galatians, the one that Paul had written to the book or to the church in Galatia. The book of Galatians, 5.14, says For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah. I told you Paul must have known something, he must have had something in him. If God decided I'm going to use this guy. He's persecuting me, but I'm going to use this guy. Use this guy, he's persecuting me, but I'm going to use this guy. He's standing there in the middle of everything that's happening against me, but I'm going to use this guy. And this guy in the book of Galatians says the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this statement you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Oh, he knew it. Oh, he knew the key to the kingdom of God. He knew the great commandment. He was not even there when it was released. Let me tell you that he was Saul at the time. He was not even in the picture when the great commandment came out. He probably didn't even hear it, but he knew it in his spirit. Oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:In Galatians, the 5th chapter, the 16th verse onwards. But I say walk by the spirit Paul is saying to you and me this morning, I walk by the spirit. Spirit. Paul is saying to you and me this morning I walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh, for the flesh sets its desires against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh, for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. In other words, he's telling you and me this morning that the spirit has to be a guide and put aside things of the flesh. And what he's trying to tell you and me this morning? What the spirit wants, the flesh wants the opposite. You know that we walk by faith and not by sight. It's exactly the opposite. It's opposite. It's exactly what this means in this passage of scripture, the book of galatians, the fifth chapter, 16th verse. The flesh and the spirit are opposites. Paul even talks about the works of the flesh in the 5th chapter and you can read it in your own time. I am not going to get into it this morning and this day, but you should read it. But let me tell you what he talks about the fruit of the spirit From the book of Galatians, the 5th chapter, 22nd verse the fruit of the spirit is love, oh, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And then he goes on to say the fruit of the spirit is love. Joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. Oh, it's all love, hallelujah. The first fruit of the spirit is love.
Speaker 1:How many of us today have gotten so busy with our daily lives that we have completely lost track of the Helper? He is here to help us stay in the Spirit and not stay in the flesh, so busy in the flesh with our daily routine and our work and our to-do's and our chores and our bills to pay. I am not pointing a finger at you. We are all human. I am just asking you this morning where is the helper in your life? And if you understand through the scriptures released this morning, through the word of God, that love is everything, the helper is here, the spirit of love is with you, it's in you, and the only reason why you are not probably living in it is because you've given things of the flesh top priority. And hey, yet again, it's not me, it's not you, it's things of the flesh top priority. And hey, yet again, it's not me, it's not you, it's all of us. We're human.
Speaker 1:Sit and take a few seconds and think if you've put the spirit at the back burner, let's not do that today. Let's not put things of the flesh at the front. Let's, in fact, today, decide to put things of the spirit at the front and let's turn to our helper. Oh, jesus left us with. He said I will not leave you as an orphan. I am sending you a helper. My father will send you the helper and he will be with you always, forever, forever, at your right hand. Hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Some of you get it. Get it. Some of you who don't meditate on the word of God, and you will get it. The spirit of God is with you, the helper is with you and, with the help that we have, we are to live in the spirit and not in the flesh, and then you will live in love and then, believe me, people of the most high people who know Jesus, you will see the hundredfold blessing. You will see the law and the prophets and the blessing coming to life in your life.
Speaker 1:It's not easy. Never once did I say it's easy, but it's the way we're supposed to do it, and I'm giving you the key to do it through the word of God hallelujah. Let's give him control. Today onwards, let's ask him to take complete control. Let's ask him to be our shepherd and our guide.
Speaker 1:Hallelujah, dear Lord, I thank you for this beautiful word. I thank you for your double-edged sword that does not go back until it has achieved what it has to, lord, until it has achieved what it has been set out for. Lord, I thank you for your love that's on this platform. I thank you, lord, for your helper, that you sent amongst us the beautiful spirit that is with us forever. Lord sent amongst us a beautiful spirit that is with us forever. Lord.
Speaker 1:I pray, lord, that we leave everything this beautiful morning at your feet. Lord, you guide us and help us. Lord, you take control. Lord, we leave all the things of the flesh at your feet, lord, and we ask this morning that you help us align with the Spirit, lord. Thank you, lord, for the things that you are doing. Lord, we ask you that you be our shepherd and our guide. We thank you, lord, for what you did on that cross for us. Lord. We know, lord, that you are alive today and seated at the right hand of God, and we know, lord, you're always with us, at our right hand. And this beautiful day we leave everything at your feet. Be a shepherd and a guide, lord. Guide us through the right path, lord, that we may not operate by flesh, but we will operate only in your spirit. Lord, thank you for this beautiful time name. I pray Amen.
