Call Upon The Lord
Call Upon The Lord
This week's message is for those wrestling with doubt and uncertainty. No matter the situation—a difficult work environment, health concerns, financial struggles, or relationship conflicts—know that God comes through in ways you never imagined possible.
“I love the Lord, because He hears My voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.
- Psalms 116:1-2 NASB1995
I want to tell you this morning some of you have some doubts in your mind about God and how he operates. Some of you think that there are certain protocols that you need to follow before you reach out to God. Some of you are even thinking are you worthy to reach out to God? Some of you are even at a point where you're questioning your own faith. Your faith might be dwindling, maybe hanging on a thread. Questions, no problem, it happens to the best. I want to tell you, I have good news for you this morning, and I'm going straight into the word of God, this beautiful day that he has given us, and I'm going to the word from the book of Deuteronomy, the 31st chapter, the 8th verse, deuteronomy 31 8. And these are for all of you, and do note that we are all human and we all have questions at times, at different times in life, and there are times when you are put through the furnace to refine you as gold to come out on the other side, and it's fair to have questions. So here goes from Deuteronomy 31.8 the Lord is the one who goes ahead of you. He will be with you, oh hallelujah, and he will not fail you or forsake you Do not fear or be dismayed. Oh hallelujah, what a powerful passage of scripture, deuteronomy 31.8. The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you and he will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. Oh, beautiful, what a beautiful passage of scripture, and some of you can even feel the presence of God right now, as we've started. Praise God for that. And I want to tell you this is a changing of the guard. This is a time. This is Moses' last stand in front of the whole of Israel before he hands over charge to Joshua. And I want to tell you that Moses was a beautiful tool for the Lord and God used him tremendously and performed amazing miracles, signs and wonders through him. But at this point now, in Deuteronomy 31, moses is 120 years old and his work has now come to an end. He's on one side of the Jordan and he stands in front of Israel and he tells them to go forward now to the other side of the Jordan with Joshua, so one leading into the other.
Speaker 1:As I said, the change of God and the Lord. He says this to Israel and he is saying it to you. The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you and he will be with you and he will not fail you or forsake you. Oh, hallelujah, do not fear or be dismayed. Oh, the Lord will go ahead of you. This morning, this day, the Lord will be with you. It's the word of God, people. The Lord will not fail nor forsake you. Do not fear or do not be dismayed. Oh, hallelujah. What a powerful passage of scripture before he lets Israel go into the hands, at the hands of Joshua, into the promised land.
Speaker 1:And I'm not even getting into the miracle. Some of you clearly know some of the miracles that God did through Moses. I'm not even getting into that. And yet he's assuring Israel that has seen God in all his wonder, but yet he's assuring them. Look, you know what. The Lord is going ahead of you. Just as he did so many years after we came out of slavery, he will still do it, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And whatever you might be going through this morning, know this the Lord is with you. He will go ahead of you. The Bible says he will. He's the one who goes ahead with you. He will go ahead of you. The Bible says he will. He is the one who goes ahead of you. He is the one who goes ahead of you. There is no one else who goes ahead of you. It does not say there might be a chance that he will go ahead of you, there might be a possibility that he sends someone before you. No, no, he goes ahead of you and he will not fail you nor forsake you. Oh, hallelujah, what a beautiful passage of scripture.
Speaker 1:And today I want to share with you from the psalms, and just as you heard this beautiful psalm this morning, the psalms in most cases in the bible are recorded as Psalms of David and in other cases believed to be have written by David. Praises of the Most High, only possible, the way a man could do it. And king david knew something about god. He had a very deep relationship with god. In fact, god even said david is a man of his own heart. But there must be something really special there about david which means he definitely knew something about god and he wrote these wonderful, powerful p Psalms, just like the one that you heard this morning, psalm 18.
Speaker 1:And today I'll be sharing with you from some of David in the Bible about what David knew and understood about God, and take that page from his book and make it yours this morning. Understand that God loves you and whatever the situation, big or small, he is always with you. And I'm getting straight into the word. Psalm 118, the fifth to the seventh. Psalm 118, the fifth to the seventh verse From my distress, I called upon the Lord. The Lord answered me and set me in a large place. The Lord is for me. I will not fear, for what can man do to me? The Lord is for me, among those who help me. Therefore, I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me. Therefore, I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me. Oh, hallelujah, oh, you should mark down the scripture. It's the Psalm of David. It's 180 in the fifth verse onwards. In fact, you can read the whole Psalm, but I'm just sharing a few bits with you this morning to strengthen your foundation through the word of God.
Speaker 1:This stress, I want to tell you, is a deep form. It's a deep form of hurt. It's a deeper form of pain and sorrow and anxiety and things like that. It's a deep form. It's distress. There's hurt, pain, sorrow, anxiety, and then there's distress. It's deep and David, at that time of distress, is calling upon the Lord. It's deep and David, as a time of distress, is calling upon the Lord. And at this time, call upon the Lord and, just as David knew and he always knew, and that's why he wrote the psalm, his God will answer Hallelujah and he will set you in a large place. His God will answer Hallelujah and he will set you in a large place, as he did for King David. And do not fear, the Lord is for you. What can man do to you? Hallelujah, hallelujah, the Lord is for you. What can man do to you? What a beautiful, beautiful way of looking at it, through the eyes of King David, who knew that at the time when I am the lowest, I will call and he is for me and he will answer me and I will not fear. Because what can man do to me? Oh hallelujah.
Speaker 1:The 8th verse onwards says it is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. The 8th verse onwards says it is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. All nations surround in me. In the name of the Lord, I will surely cut them off, oh hallelujah. I want to tell you we are all human and we all do this. We all put our trust in men At some point of time in life. We all put our trust in men at some point of time in life. We all put our trust in men. And today I want to tell you change your focus, take refuge in the creator of heaven and earth. No matter what situation and who is surrounding you, you will cut them off. Oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah. I told you you have questions. Some of you still have questions, and they will be answered. Praise God for that. The 13th verse onwards says you pushed me violently so that I was falling, but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and my song me. The Lord is my strength and my song and he has become my salvation. Oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah.
Speaker 1:You know, when Jesus was on the planet, people were against him. It's not like he doesn't know what it's like to have people against you. He had everyone against him. Hey, people who were healed, people who were born with things from birth, people who didn't have eyes, who didn't have eyesight, people who were lepers. They were lame. They had leprosy, people who could not walk, the paralyzed. He healed them and they turned against him. Of course, not all of them, but you know what I mean.
Speaker 1:And if this morning you're staring at these bunch of people who are coming against you, pushing hard and violently at you, that you're losing your footing, you're losing your ground, you're losing your sleep, I want to tell you the're losing your ground, you're losing your sleep. I want to tell you the Lord is going to help you. Oh, hallelujah, the Lord is your help and he will be your salvation. Oh, hallelujah, and he has become my salvation, david says, which means there was a time when he probably tried on his own. He has become my salvation. Oh, hallelujah, he will be your salvation. If you're being put on that chair and there's a panel in front of you questioning you, oh, he is at your right hand and you will have a table before them and you will feast before them and he will rebuke them for you. Oh, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And from another Psalm of David 116, the first chapter. The first verse says 116. The first verse says I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my supplications. Hallelujah, the Psalm, hallelujah, the Psalm of David 116, mark it down. The first verse says I love the Lord Because he hears my voice and my supplications? You had that question. How Will he hear me? Close that door, talk to him, pray to him. Pray to him. Make your supplications known. If you don't know what supplications, go to google and find out. No, I'll tell you. But hey, I don't want to break this one.
Speaker 1:Psalm 116, one the first verse onwards I love the lord because he hears my voice and my supplications. He hears my voice and my supplications. Don't miss it, because he has inclined his ear to me. Oh, hallelujah, beautiful jesus. Therefore, I shall call upon him as long as I live. Oh, you doubted it. He hears your voice and if you think he doesn't hear your voices because you are not speaking enough, he hears your prayers and your earnest, deep request. That's what the supplication is.
Speaker 1:Jesus said when you pray, shut that door. Shut that door, you will talk to your partner. You'll talk to your best friend. You'll talk to your wife. You'll talk to your kids. You'll talk to your parents. You won't talk to God. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord. So you talk to the Lord and know from the Psalm that he has His ear inclined to you. He has His ear tuned to you. It's inclined to you, which means, you know, go check the meaning of inclined. Again, it's tilted towards you. Oh, hallelujah. Oh, some of you can absolutely feel the presence of God. He is tuned to you, you beautiful, beautiful, child of the most high.
Speaker 1:What makes you think he sent you on this planet to leave you alone? What makes you think that the cause of death encompassed me and the terrors of Sheol came upon me? I found distress and sorrow, and then I called upon the name of the Lord. O Lord, I beseech you, save my life. Oh, that's a deep one, isn't it? This is a deep one. It's about life and death. And there's this. It's a point of no return, a point of deep distress and sorrow. Call upon him and he will answer you. The Lord preserves the simple. The next verse says I was brought low and he saved me. Oh, he will save you. Oh, he will save you, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Psalm 116, the seventh verse onwards says Return to your rest, o, my soul, for the Lord has dented bountifully with you, for you have rescued my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling Beautiful, eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling Beautiful. You will find rest only and only in God. The Lord will deal bountifully with you, he will fill you up in plenty In His abundance is what the scripture says. I am reading it again to you Return to your rest, o my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. Hallelujah, for you have rescued my soul from death, my eyes from tears and my feet from stumbling. Wow, how clear is that. He will deal with your situation bountifully in the abundance that he knows of and he owns, that he has made. I want to tell you this morning he's already paid a very heavy, very heavy price for you and redeemed you from eternal, saved your eyes from tears and your feet from stumbling. And if you think, lord, I have cried, I have cried so much. Well, maybe you, you need to change your perspective. Shut that door and cry out to him and he will answer you. And go read Psalm 18 and see what it says, how he will answer you. He will come down on the clouds. Out of His nostrils there will be smoke, hallelujah. Some of you have children and you know what it's like if somebody comes against your child. Yeah, that's the living God, that's the one you serve, that's the one who answers you, that's the one, so don't doubt it even once. Hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Psalm 103, again, another Psalm of David. I told you I'm only dealing with the Psalms of David this beautiful, beautiful day. The Lord has established his throne in the heavens. His throne is in the heavens and his sovereignty rules over all. Bless the Lord, you, his angels mighty in strength, who perform his word, obeying the voice of his word. Hallelujah. Make a note of the scripture and meditate on it, and every time you meditate on it, it will give you a revelation. The Lord has established his throne in the heavens and the sovereignty rules over all. Bless the Lord, you, his angels mighty in strength, to perform his word, obeying the voice of his word. Hallelujah, his throne is right there. You have shifted. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you that, but you have. He is right there. The earth is his footstool. He is right there waiting for you to call out to him, and he will mount on the cherub and he will come down for you, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Psalm 107, 19 and 20 says they cried out to the Lord in their trouble. They cried out to the Lord in their trouble and he saved them out of their distresses. He sent his word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction. So, hallelujah, his word will heal you. This day, aligned to the scripture, they cried out to the Lord in their trouble. He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them and delivered them from their Destructions. Oh, hallelujah, this is a special one for you, for one of you this morning, one of you today, and you've been waiting to hear it. You've been waiting for somebody to boost you On this and here it is, from the word of God, from the book of Proverbs, the 5th Proverbs, the third chapter, the fifth verse onwards Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.
Speaker 1:In all your ways, acknowledge him and he will make your path straight. Hallelujah, trust in the Lord with all your heart. I know it's a difficult one, but try it this morning. Try it when you have no safety net. You think he's gonna let you fall. He won't. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him and he will make your path straight.
Speaker 1:And in case you're still a little confused, isaiah 55 says for my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor my ways your ways. Oh, declares the Lord. Hallelujah, he's not from the world. My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are my ways. Your ways, my ways, declares the Lord. Oh, he's the creator of heaven and earth. He has a different way of dealing with things. He will deliver you from the foulest snare. The Bible says under his wings you will take refuge. The Bible says he will overthrow the people who are coming against you. He will change your work situations on its head in a second. He will reverse your medical report if that's what you're dealing with, for things to be a hundred percent perfect with you and your body. He will mend the broken heart. He will make you lie beside still waters. He will restore your soul. He will change your financial situations before you even know it.
Speaker 1:And I want to tell you there's nothing, and understand it this morning, because his word says his thoughts are not your thoughts, his ways are not your ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. His ways are not our ways, ways. He doesn't just have one way of dealing with things. He has multiple, beautiful, bountiful ways of dealing with your situations. Oh, just trust in him.
Speaker 1:There is nothing normal about touching the hem of his garment and being healed from something that is plaguing you. There is nothing normal about it. There is nothing normal about parting a sea, that you may walk right through it. There's nothing normal about coming out of a furnace without even the smell of smoke on you. There's nothing normal about hungry lions' mouth being shut that they may not even come near you nor harm you.
Speaker 1:And oh for the one who went on the cross and by his stripes we are healed who took up a death and a curse on a cross just for you and me, whose body was broken and his blood was shed for you and me. That you may know, today and this morning, that he will never leave you nor forsake you, and he is always with you. That you may know, today and this morning, that he will never leave you nor forsake you, and he is always with you, hallelujah. There's nothing normal about that, but he did it for you and me. He gave up his life on a cross for you and me. Hallelujah, take a few seconds, close your eyes and look at that situation that's standing right in front of you and mark the date down, because it's going to be smashed to bits by the Lord and you will see his salvation, just as David knew it and he said it to us in the Psalms, telling it to you this morning to the word of God, you will see his salvation, hallelujah. Picture that situation, picture those people, picture your bank balance, picture your report, your medical report, whatever it is you want to picture, picture it, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:I thank you, lord, for this beautiful word. I thank you for your double edged sword. I thank you, lord, for chains that you are breaking. I thank you, lord, for bars that you are cutting. I thank you, lord, for that person who's sitting in front of her big bunch of people just taking them all on, because she's not alone. Thank you, lord, for watching over your word to perform it, and thank you for your beautiful psalms.
Speaker 1:I thank you that your yoke is inclined to us, lord. I thank you, lord, that you hear us. I thank you. Our prayers and supplications are with you. I thank you, Lord, most of all, that you will never leave us nor forsake us, and you're always there for us. You will never leave us to destruction. You will take us to a place that is higher than us, lord. You will take us to a place that is higher than us. Lord, you will lead us next to still waters. Lord, you will go ahead of us. How beautiful are you, lord. I join in the angels who give you glory and sing Holy, holy, holy Lord, god Almighty, who was and is and is to come, hallelujah. Thank you for this beautiful time. Thank you for renewing people's hearts. Thank you for changing situations. Lord, thank you for everything that you've already done in the name of Jesus, amen.
