Call Unto Him
In continuation of last week's message about putting our trust in God, here's a glimpse of the assurance that comes with it:
No matter the situation you find yourself in, know that when you call upon the Lord, He will help you.
If you feel overwhelmed or backed into a corner, God Himself will make a way for you
“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
- Psalms 46:10 NASB1995
Last week we heard about a parable spoken by Jesus about a wise man and a foolish man, how the wise man builds his house upon the rock and the foolish man on the sand.
Speaker 1:And how the wise man will hold fast against the storms that come and stand firm because he has put his trust in the Lord. Hallelujah, and aligned to the word of God, those who build their house upon the rock, which is Jesus. They will be like a tree planted on the water, whose roots extend by the stream and they will not fear when the heat comes. They will be like a tree planted on the water whose roots extend by the stream and they will not fear when the heat comes, but their leaves will remain green and will not be anxious when rot comes and will bear fruit always. Amen, hallelujah. What a beautiful passage of Scripture and what a beautiful parable from Jesus trying to explain to everyone here. You can either build your house on sand or you can build your house on the rock. And the way I would like to look at it, wisdom coming from the Most High, the rock being Jesus and the sand being the wisdom of the earth. And then Jeremiah 17, 7 says Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is in the Lord. And today I will show you from the word of God how beautiful it is and what happens for those who put their trust in the Lord. And you know, there are times in our life on this planet where things are going beautifully superb, and if you're in that phase right now, praise God for it. But there are also times when things are difficult. So there are happy times and there are times of doubt, there are times of low, there are testing times and, as times of doubt, there are times of low, there are testing times and, as the Bible says, all time planned under the heavens, where he is in control, hallelujah. And today I'm going to get straight into the word of God and show you, through the word of God, what it's like when you put your trust in the Lord. And I want to share with you this morning from this beautiful psalm, such a powerful psalm, and you can mark it down and you can read it and meditate on it in your own time if you like. But it's such a beautiful psalm and I'm starting straight with it Psalm 46.1. Psalm 46.1.
Speaker 1:Psalm 46.1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Hallelujah, amen. Just for you who don't know, hallelujah means praise the Lord and Amen means so be it. And you can always say amen and hallelujah, as the word of God is being released and you will see it come to life. Hallelujah, god is our refuge and strength. A very present help in trouble. The creator of heaven and earth is our refuge and strength. A very present help in trouble. The creator of heaven and earth is our strength, is what the psalmist is saying here and our shelter. Refuge means taking shelter at the time, at difficult times. Refuge also means shelter from danger, and God is our shelter this morning. A very present help. What a beautiful, beautiful line. A very present help in trouble. And in case you don't know what that means, I want to tell you this morning he's a very present help. You might not be able to see him, but but be assured through the word of God, the Bible says he is at your right hand, he's very present. Don't even for once think he's not with you. The very present help. Oh hallelujah, psalm 46, mark it and, as I said, meditate on it in your own time.
Speaker 1:The second and third verse goes on to say Therefore, we will not fear Because of my very present help. I will not fear, though the earth should change, and though the mountains slip into the hearts of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride, things around you might change on the axis, things that you see, might just be unbelievably incredible by sight, something way above your head that will try to shake your foundation. But remember, as this beautiful psalmist says, there is nothing to fear because your very present help is with you, because you've built your house on the rock, hallelujah, hallelujah. And then it goes on to say you've built your house on the rock, hallelujah, hallelujah. And then it goes on to say there's a river whose streams may glad the city of God, the holy dwelling places of the Most High. Oh, hallelujah, god is in the midst of her. She will not be moved. God will help her when morning dawns. Oh, hallelujah. Here's that river, again, hallelujah. We heard about this last week too. Here it is the river that comes from the throne of God and of Jesus. Those streams add gladness to your households, to your life, to everything you touch, because it says the leaves are always green, the evergreen tree, the one whose leaves are for the healing of the nation. You see beautiful hallelujah, the river whose streams make glad the city of God, and you'll say the city of God is referring glad the city of God. And you'll say the city of God is referring to the city of God. No, the city of God is you. He lives in you, his people, you are the city, hallelujah, and God is in your midst. He will is in your midst, he will be in your midst.
Speaker 1:This passage of scripture says you will not be shaken or disturbed. God will be your help. Hallelujah, amen, hallelujah, the Lord of hosts is with us. The seventh verse says the God of Jacob is our stronghold, salah and Salah is a synonym of a Hebrew synonym that means forever. Hallelujah, and I'm reading it again the Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our stronghold forever. Oh, hallelujah, and I'm reading it again the Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our stronghold forever. Oh, hallelujah, god is with you. He is with you forever. And I've told you multiple times and I'll say it again everything in the Bible is interlinked. Everything in the Bible is interlinked. Everything in the Bible is interlinked when one passage of scripture says I will never leave you nor forsake you. Another passage of scripture, somewhere else, says I'm always at your right hand. And here's what it is he will never leave you nor forsake you. He's always at your right hand. God is forever with you. Hallelujah.
Speaker 1:And this is for someone today. This is for someone today from King David, I want to tell you it's also Psalm 18. But today I'm reading it to you from the book of Samuel. It is written by King David At a time when God has saved him From Saul, who was trying to kill him, and also From the many times and the trials and the tribulations that God has pulled King David out of. And it's such a powerful. As I said, it's also Psalm 18. But today I'm reading it to you from the book of Samuel and I want to tell you that God called David a man of his own heart. God called David a man of his own heart. That means David knew something about God and he had a deep connection with God. David was just a shepherd boy. He was not even brought into the lineup when his father was showing his sons to the man of God who would anoint the future king of Israel. He didn't even bring him because he was a ruddy shepherd boy, but the Lord had picked him because he was a man of his own heart, the Bible says, and he had a deep connection with God. And this beautiful morning I'm sharing with you from his words and before I get into it, I want to tell you.
Speaker 1:Some of you know this story, some of you don't, some of you might remember, some might not, and this is in a time from the life of Elisha and his servant, gehazi, or Gehazi. And for most of you, you know that there is this army planning from the life of Elisha and his servant, gehazi. And for most of you know that there's this army planning to kill the king of Israel. And Elisha is in that land. He's in a land in a place called Dothan and, to cut a very long story short, the king, the enemy king, decides to send a very great army, the Bible says to capture Elisha. He says leave the king, leave his armies, let's go after this guy. He's the guy who's saving the king constantly. Let's just go after him. So the enemy camp sends a great army just to capture Elisha. And, as I said, some of you know and some of you don't. And for those of you who don't. I'm letting you know, which is why I'm spending some time on this.
Speaker 1:The army comes and circles the city at night and in the morning, gehazi, his servant, elisha's servant, gets up and he sees that the city is surrounded by this great army and he's scared and he goes to Elisha and he says, alas, master, what are we going to do? And I can only. I have a wonderful imagination and I can just picture this, because the bible says nothing about Elisha being moved and I can just picture this him just getting up and walking out and saying, Lord, o Lord, open his eyes that he may see, oh hallelujah. So Elisha prays to God that Gehazi's eyes be open and that he may see. And the Lord opened the servant's eyes and he saw the spiritual world. And the Bible says the mountain surrounding them was filled with horses and chariots of fire. Oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah. I trust in the name of the Lord. I build my house upon the rock. I am always with you. You can't see it. And why am I telling you this story this morning? Why am I even sharing this with you? Out of nowhere? Because Elisha knew it and all he had to do was just pray to God Lord, just open his eyes that he may see. Let him just see what you do for the ones you love, for the ones you have chosen, for the ones you've handpicked. I have. You have not picked me, I have picked you, says the Lord. Oh hallelujah. And I want to tell you this morning that this scripture from King David that I'm going to share with you, this scripture, is one of those. It's to give you a glimpse of what happens in the spirituals. Oh hallelujah. So sit back and enjoy, and if you're in that period where everything is wonderful, praise God for it and enjoy this beautiful time in the presence of the Most High. And if you are someone who's in that tough spot, maybe you're struggling with something. Maybe it's a work situation, maybe it's something to do with a health situation, maybe it's financial, maybe it's too many people are coming against you and you just don't know what to do. This is for you. Hallelujah.
Speaker 1:2 Samuel, from 2 Samuel, the 22nd chapter, the 7th verse onwards, and, as I said, you mark it down and read it In your own time, if you like. In my distress, I called upon the Lord. Yes, I cried out to my God, and from His temple. He heard my voice and my cry for help came into his ears. Oh, hallelujah, let me just tell you that there's sad, there's low and there's distress. It's the lowest point. Distress is the lowest point. It's a deep word. Distress is the lowest point you can ever get.
Speaker 1:And King David, in this beautiful passage of scripture, says I called upon the Lord, I cried to my God, and from his temple, oh hallelujah, he heard my voice. Some of you can feel the presence of the Most High and my cry for help came into his ears. Oh, hallelujah, oh, you have been seeking him. No, no, no, no. He hasn't forgotten you, he hasn't left you alone, and I've already shared scriptures with you to prove that to you. And today you will see his salvation, for from his temple he has heard your voice and your voice has reached his ears. Oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah. What a powerful passage of scripture.
Speaker 1:The next verse goes on to say and then the earth shook and quaked and the foundations of heaven were trembling and was shaken, because he was angry. Oh hallelujah, we're all human and all of us love someone and all of us know what we will do if something is about to harm that person we love, and I want to tell you that you are his child. Some of you are parents here and you know what it's like, you know what you will do, and this is God for you, the one who has purchased you and redeemed you, the one who has purchased you and redeemed you, the one who has chosen you. The earth shook and quaked and the foundations of heaven were trembling. Because he got angry. Oh, how dare you? Hallelujah.
Speaker 1:The 9th and 10th verse says Smoke went up out of his nostrils, fire from his mouth, devoured coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and came down with thick darkness under his feet. Oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah. There are times when he does not even send his agents. He will come down. Remember Shadrach, meshach and Abednego? It's one of those hallelujah, oh hallelujah. And those of you who have an imagination, oh, let it run wild, because this is the spiritual world for you. And when he's angry that someone is dead to encroach that boundary that he has set, oh, he's coming down himself.
Speaker 1:Did we not put three people in the furnace? Was it not just Shadrach, meshach and Abednego that we put in the furnace? Oh, look, there is a fourth. What? There is? A fourth, there is a fourth. He's like the son of God. Oh, hallelujah, yeah, yeah, he'll come down the spiritual world.
Speaker 1:When you call out and cry out to the Lord, he will hear you. Oh, hallelujah, some of you can feel God's presence tremendously. The Lord thundered from heaven and the Most High uttered His voice. Oh, he will speak into your situation, oh, hallelujah. And he sent out arrows and scattered them, lightning and routed them. He will manage it for you, amen. He will scatter them. He will cause them to retreat in disorder and haste. Confusion and fear will strike them. Hey, to strike your situation. Understand that we don't fight flesh and blood. We fight instead with darkness and principalities, and they will quake and fear and shake and tremble, because the Most High has decided to step in.
Speaker 1:Oh, hallelujah, he sent from on high, he took me, amen, hallelujah. He drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. Some of us have been in this situation and if you have not, praise God for it, but I want to tell you this morning, if you are, he will pick you out from that situation and no matter how strong your opponent or no matter how bad your situation, he will deliver you. He will deliver you. He will deliver you. No one else, hallelujah. I want to tell you this morning that there are times when he will set things for your angels to do and there are times when he will do things Himself for you. Hallelujah, he will take you to a broad place.
Speaker 1:The Bible says after that, in the 19th verse onwards, because he delights in you. Oh, have you delighted in someone? Of course you have. As I said, we're only human and we've all experienced love on this planet and you know what it's like to delight in someone. I delight in my son. He's a three-year-old boy and my father delights in me. I know it. And father delights in me, I know it, and he delights in you. This morning, in case you didn't know that, oh, the world will condemn you and people who love you might condemn you, but your father delights in you. Oh, hallelujah, he looks at you and he smiles and he I don't even have words to explain it Fearfully and wonderfully made oh, hallelujah. And I'm going back to that beautiful psalm that I started with, psalm 46.
Speaker 1:And the 10th verse goes on to say and this is for you, somebody this morning. Cease striving and know that I am God. Oh, cease striving and know that I am God. I will be exalted amongst the nations and I will be exalted in the earth. Cease striving, hallelujah, hallelujah, oh hallelujah, don't do anything. This has gone above you. Don't do anything. Just sit back and relax, do nothing. Cease striving.
Speaker 1:This beautiful morning, I'm here to tell you that the Lord is stepping into the situation for you today. Oh hallelujah, some of you can feel God on your right hand. Oh hallelujah, some of you, oh hallelujah. Some of you, oh hallelujah. God is doing wonderful things. God has set things into motion. God is showing you the salvation Hallelujah this beautiful, beautiful day and this beautiful morning that he has handpicked and chosen to deliver you himself. Oh hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Dear lord, I thank you for this beautiful time. I thank you for this word. I thank you. Thank you, lord, for a double-edged sword that does not go back until it has achieved what it has been set out for. Lord. I thank you, lord, that you are watching over your word to perform it. I thank you, lord. You have stepped into some people's situations yourself and already changed it. Lord, I thank you, lord, for those gates that are smashed down. Lord. I thank you, lord, for those rocks and chains that you have broken. Thank you, lord, for going ahead and making every crooked path straight for your city, for your people, for your people, for your chosen ones.
Speaker 1:Oh, thank you, lord, for the beautiful things that you've already set into motion and, some of them, already accomplished, finished Hallelujah, oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah. Some of you will see it right now, some of you will see it in the week, some of you will not see it and realize it a little later. But, oh, hallelujah, god has stepped into your situations and even if it's the smallest thing, let me tell you, even if it's the smallest thing, me tell you, even if it's the smallest thing, praise God for it. He's taken control of it. Hallelujah, thank you for this beautiful time. Thank you for always being faithful to us, though we remain faithless, lord. I thank you, lord, for some of these situations that you've done on their head. Lord, smashed them down and broken them into nothing. Lord, hallelujah, thank you, lord. In Jesus' name, I pray, amen.
