“Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses.”
- Joshua 1:3 NASB1995
Today I want to tell you about, actually, one of my most favorite persons in the Bible, and I'll tell you why he's my favorite because of the gusto that he had towards God, because of his approach towards God and what he could do for him, for his confidence in God, his attitude toward what God can do for him and his faith being the top most one. And I want to tell you that he's from the Old Testament, just after the, or rather the same time as Moses, and if you haven't guessed it yet, I'm talking about Joshua, and you know. Before I get into it, I just want to tell you a few things about Joshua, which maybe you might know or you might not know, that the first time that Joshua was actually mentioned in the Bible is in the book of Exodus, and, you know, after the Israelites had come out of slavery and God is taking them into the promised land with Moses. That is a time when there is this particular group, or let's call it a tribe, that is coming to attack Israel and they are called the, the Amalek, and basically, this is the time when Joshua's name is mentioned in the Bible and Moses turns to Joshua and he says collect some people to go and fight against the Amalekites, and of course I want to tell you that Joshua wins that the Amalekites and of course I want to tell you that Joshua wins that battle. Of course there's a beautiful way. It's actually explained in the Bible that when Moses goes up on a hill, while Joshua collects these few Israelites to go and fight this clan or this tribe that has come against Israel, and the Bible says that when Moses was on the hill, and every time he had raised his hands towards God with his staff in his hand and the Bible says that every time his hands would come down, israel was losing the battle, and every time his hands were raised up to heaven, israel was winning the battle. It's so beautiful and you should read it sometime. And then the Bible goes on to say that he realizes and it doesn't mention his age, so he's probably getting tired by holding his hands up. So two people come to help him I'm not going to get into that, but basically they make him sit down and both of them one comes on one side and the other comes on the other and they raise his hands up and that way Moses' hands remain up and that's when Israel wins the battle, hallelujah. And that's actually the first time that Joshua is mentioned in the Bible and I want to tell you, of course he won that battle. The Bible says Joshua overwhelmed the Amalek with the edge of the sword Hallelujah.
Speaker 1:In case you didn't know this, joshua was also one of the people who was sent to go and check out the promised land and God had told Moses that he would give them this land. And Moses decides to pick spies to go and spy on the land before they enter it. And the Bible says that he picks one person from each tribe of Israel and Joshua is one of them. And they all go out into the land and they come back. Basically, moses tells them to go and see what sort of fruit is in the land, what is the land like, what are the people like, how fortified are the cities. So they go as spies, and Joshua is one of them, and I want to tell you that everyone comes back with a report saying that the land is plentiful and it's blessed and, as God had promised, it's flowing with milk and honey. The Bible says, in fact, there's this one time when the people bring back. The Bible says that it's the season of grapes and the people bring back a bunch of grapes in between a pole, that means it needed two people just to carry a bunch of grapes. That's the kind of land that God was had promised them. But when they come back, they say this land is too difficult to take because the people in the land are too strong and we'll not be able to beat them. But I want to tell you it's only Joshua and this other person whose name is Caleb who come back with the attitude which is let's go and take the land because God is with us. And I'm not getting into the rest of the story, but there's this major uprising where the Israelites decide that they want to stone Moses because he's brought us to a place where God can't take us any further, but Joshua was confident that they could take the land along with. I can't take away anything from Caleb, who also said that we can go there and take the land. The Bible also says that, by the way, this land had giants in it. You should read it. It's a beautiful uh, you know it's a beautiful story.
Speaker 1:And there's something else in later books in the Bible that Moses had a very different relationship with God. Let me tell you that, that when they had gone from place to place and he had really worked miracles and wonders through God. Of course you know, when they wanted food, god gave them food from heaven. When they wanted water, he gave them water from a rock. Then they complained and asked for non-vegetarian food and he gave it to them from the sky. So he did some amazing things to Moses and I want to tell you that wherever the Israelites were camped, moses had gone outside the camp and he had put a tent there and that tent was called the tent of meeting, in case you didn't know, and you can read it in the Bible. And the Bible says that he went there to talk to God, hallelujah. And the Bible says that Moses met with God. And this I'm quoting to you from the Bible Moses met with God and the Lord would speak with Moses Face to face, just as a man Speaks with his friend. Oh, hallelujah, hallelujah. And there's a big. The Bible clearly mentions you know. Oh, hallelujah, hallelujah. And there's a big. The Bible clearly mentions you know what all the Israelites used to do when Moses used to go into that tent. But I won't get into that. But here's what I want to tell you that Moses used to go there. He used to talk to God and God used to, you know, give him instructions or tell him what he needs to do. As I said, talk to him like he was a friend. And when Moses would leave the tent, joshua would stay behind. The Bible never says that God spoke to Joshua it never does but it just says that Joshua stayed back in the tent and hall. Hallelujah for that, because, the way I look at it, joshua was just enjoying the presence of the Most High Hallelujah.
Speaker 1:Just in case you didn't know, the books of Genesis, exodus, leviticus, numbers and Deuteronomy all these five books have been written by Moses. And at the end of the book of Deuteronomy I think it's the 34th verse the Bible says that God calls on to Moses and he takes him up to a hill it's at a place called Moab and he takes him up on a hill and he shows him the entire land and he says this is the land that I promised your people, that I promised you, that I promised the descendants of Abraham Isaac. This is the land, but you won't go there. So you see, after everything that Moses did, he tells Moses you won't go there. And Moses was 120 years old. The Bible says and you should read it from the book of Deuteronomy, as I said, the last chapter where God shows Moses all the land that he had promised the Israelites from the time of Abraham, isaac and Jacob that he would give to their descendants, as he told them. And God tells Moses that he won't go there. And according to the word of God, the Bible says Moses died in the land of Moab. He didn't go to the promised land. Don't ask me why. I don't have the answer to that, but I can tell you this. The Bible says, immediately after that, and just in case you didn't know, these first five books I told you were written by Moses, the next book is written by Joshua. And just in case you didn't know this, as I said, said you should read it from the book of the word, the Bible. You should read it.
Speaker 1:The Bible says Joshua was filled with the spirit of wisdom as Moses had laid hands on him. I want to tell you one thing before I can do anything today God's plan is impeccable for you. You might not see it, but it's impeccable. And I want to tell you Joshua, the way I see it, or the way he's mentioned in the Bible was nothing else but a warrior, because every time Moses would turn to Joshua, it was either for a battle, or it was to go in as a spy, or it was to pick a fight with someone. That's the only time Joshua was ever there. Besides that, the only other time Joshua is mentioned in the Bible is when he used to go and bask in the presence of the Most High. So he had a relationship with God, even though God never spoke to Joshua before Moses left. He only spoke to Moses and Moses spoke to Joshua.
Speaker 1:But here's the time, now Deuteronomy is ending, and God shows him the land and says I'm not taking, you're not going there, but you will. You will bless this guy, joshua, and he will take them there into that land. And the Bible says according to the word of God, moses dies at the age of 120 and he's buried in the land of Moab. But he prays over Joshua, he lays his hands on him. The Bible says and the spirit of wisdom now is upon Joshua. And the Bible says there was no prophet like Moses. And since that day there hasn't been a prophet like Moses in Israel, whom the Lord knew, face to face.
Speaker 1:Hallelujah, and for the way, the mighty way that to face Hallelujah, and for the way, the mighty way that God worked through him. But it's not about Moses. This morning I want to talk to you. I told you it's about Joshua, and now it's time for Joshua. Hallelujah. And after the death of Moses, the Bible says the Lord spoke with Joshua and asked him to cross the Jordan and take the people into the promised land. Hallelujah. And this is what I want to give you this morning, directly from the word of God, which is for you and me today.
Speaker 1:From the book of Joshua, the first chapter, the third verse, oh, hallelujah. And again, before I get into the scripture, moses is gone. He's buried in Moab. He did not see the promised land. He lays his hands on Joshua, as God told him to do so.
Speaker 1:Now the spirit of wisdom is upon Joshua and now God speaks to Joshua. This is the first time that he's telling him cross the Jordan, take the people, go into that land, because that's the land that I've given you, that I promised your forefathers. He said it to Moses. And here, from the book of Joshua, the first chapter, the third verse every place on which the sole of your foot treads. I have given it to you Amen, hallelujah, amen, hallelujah, just as I spoke to Moses, hallelujah. I'm reading it again. It's beautiful and powerful. And, just in case you didn't know, hallelujah means praise the Lord and Amen means so be it. And I'm reading to you from the word of God this morning Joshua, the first chapter, the third verse Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you. Amen, just as I spoke to Moses.
Speaker 1:And then he goes on to talk, talk about the land spanning from one place to the other. By the way, he tells Joshua, I will give it to you till the sun, where you can see the sun setting, which means everything. Hallelujah, I am not getting into that. And then he says in the fifth verse no man, no man Will be able To stand before you All the days of your life. Hallelujah, just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you and I will not fail you, nor forsake you. Hallelujah, oh Hallelujah. No man will be able to stand before you. No man will be able to stand before you. No man will be able to stand before you. Hallelujah, what a promise, what a promise. Any place that the sole of your foot goes on to has been given to you. Oh, hallelujah, what a promise.
Speaker 1:Let me tell you before this, joshua was only fighting battles and, yes, he would spend time in the tent of meeting with the most high. And I want to tell you that joshua gives a secret and he tells god gives a secret, joshua, and he tells him don't turn left or right from it. And here's the secret from again, the book of Joshua, the first chapter, the eighth verse. And this is the secret. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it, for then you will make your ways prosperous and you will have success. Amen, amen, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:I want to tell you, just before this, moses had gone up on a hill, on a mountain actually. And this is the time when God actually tells him you can't look at me directly in the face, no man can see me. He says so, maybe even when he was at the tent of meeting. Maybe he was, you know, on his fours and maybe facing the ground, maybe he was flat, but nobody can see God's face and live through it. I want to tell you that it's in the Bible, and that's why he tells Moses you'll not be able to see me in the face when you go up to the mountain, so I will pass by you, I will hide you in a rock, I'll cover you with my hand and then I will pass by you.
Speaker 1:And, by the way, I don't know why I'm telling you that, but hallelujah and he tells him, gives him this law, which he writes down on stone tablets, which I know most of you would have seen in a movie played by charlton heston. And if you've not, you should. The commandments, the law, and that's what he's telling joshua, and I'm reading it to you again from the word of god. This book, hallelujah of the law, shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night and you shall be careful to do according to all that's written in it for then, for then you will make your ways prosperous and you will have success. Hallelujah, oh hall, I want to tell you this morning, just in case you didn't know.
Speaker 1:Joshua crossed the Jordan. Every place his foot went on was given to him. He won every battle that was in front of him. Hallelujah, he took every city in the promised land. Without doubt, as God had promised to him, I will go with you Every place your foot treads upon. I have already given to you. He said oh, hallelujah, what a powerful thing To come from the mouth of the most high. Hallelujah, I have already given it to you. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. Then I just want to tell you, in this day and age, we don't have stone tablets with us. We're living many, many years after Joshua and Moses were on this planet.
Speaker 1:But you have this book called the Bible, and I want to tell you that's the law, that's the law of the most high, the word of God. And now I'm referring to this book as the Bible, the word of God. And now I'm referring to this book as the Bible. And now you read it again in your own time, from Joshua, the first chapter, the eighth verse, and remember that if you do according to what is written in it, then you will make your ways prosperous and you will have success, amen. And by the way, just in case you need to know, joshua 1.9 says have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous, do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord, your God, is with you wherever you go, amen. Yes, in case you're wondering, god is with you wherever you go.
Speaker 1:God is not a respecter of people, he's not a respecter of men. He owes nothing to no one. He's not a debtor to any man. What he did for Joshua, he will do for you, he will do for me, and he's telling you this morning that remember my book, remember my law, and in the book and in the law is prosperity, is favor, is victory, hallelujah. And every place your foot will go upon is already given to you, just as he did for Joshua, and he will never leave you nor forsake you. Just as he told Joshua, I will not leave you. As I have said, I will do. I am not man. I cannot go back on my word. Hallelujah, hallelujah. Joshua won every battle. After that, in case you didn't know, which is again one of my most favorite parts of the Bible, is Joshua made the sun stand still and in fact, just to be 100% sure, he even commanded the moon not to move. That was Joshua for you.
Speaker 1:The bible says there never has been and never will be a time when God heard the voice of a man. There must have been something about Joshua and, as I said God is not a respecter of people. If you have that something in you, only you know what's the outcome. Hallelujah, god most definitely knows the outcome. Hallelujah today, today, I just want to leave you with this that you need to have a relationship with the word of god, you need to have a relationship with the law, you need to know the word, you need to know jesus and, in case, the story of joshua and what god told joshua before he crossed the jordan. This is all before he crosses the Jordan, it's before he even lets him take his first step into Jordan by crossing the river and putting him into the promised land. He's already made all these promises to him before that. And then he says go, I'm with you, go Every place your soul treads upon. I have already given it to you. Just go, but remember the law, hallelujah. And if that was not enough, through the words of jesus when he was on this planet, take this and understand it. It's a secret.
Speaker 1:Matthew 4 4 says but he answered, answered Hallelujah, but he answered. And he said it is written man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Oh, hallelujah, jesus'. Words for you and me this morning, you will not live. Of course, we are human. We live by bread. Bread refers to food, but man shall not live on bread alone, but instead on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God Hallelujah. If that's not enough for you, you should understand it. I told you the Bible is a beautiful book of secrets and you need to unlock those secrets to understand the key to life. If Joshua's story didn't make it clear for you, jesus has made it crystal clear. Yes, we are on this planet and in the words of Jesus, we shall not live on food alone Is what he is trying to say. Instead of that, every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, I want to tell you I have a relationship with God this morning.
Speaker 1:Most of us don't. We are very busy. We get up in the morning, we go to our emails, we check the news which country is at war with which country and then we go and look at our phones and whatsapp and instagram. We have such such distractions every day our tablets, the games that we play, the updates that we need to know of. Just go shut that door. Have a relationship with God. Have a relationship.
Speaker 1:The beginning was the word. The word was with God. The law is Jesus. Do you have a relationship with Jesus? Shut that door.
Speaker 1:Read the bible, meditate on the word. Do not let it depart from your life. It should be your start every day. I know it's difficult, I know it's difficult, I know it's difficult, but this is the secret to life. And he told Moses I'm sorry, he told Joshua very clearly. I'll read it to you again, for then you will make your way prosperous and you will have success. For then this is the words coming out of the creator of heaven and earth telling joshua meditate on my word, don't look left or right from it. Be very clear to follow the rules, and then you will be prosper, prosperous and you will have success. Oh, hallelujah, hallelujah, delight in the lord, and he will give you the desires of the heart. It's the same thing. Amen. Have a relationship with god.
Speaker 1:Make a decision this morning to get up in the morning, if it's a little bit. Get up and say good morning jesus, how are you, good morning father. How are you? Thank you for this beautiful day, but thanksgiving, start your day with Thanksgiving. Have a relationship with him, meditate on his word day and night, and you will find prosperity following you, even if you don't want it, because God is a debtor to no man. Hallelujah, let's pray. Let's pray. If you can stand up, please stand up and we'll pray.
Speaker 1:Dear Lord, I thank you for this beautiful word. I thank you for your double-edged sword that does not go back until it has achieved what it has been set out for, lord. I thank you, lord, for your word today that is released and says that every place our soul, the soul of our foot, treads upon, you have already given to us Lord. Thank you, lord. The soul of our foot treads upon you have already given to us, lord. Thank you, lord. Thank you, lord, for your word that says you will never leave us nor forsake us, lord, just as you did with Joshua in every place that he went after he crossed the Jordan and every place that you were already written into his hands, lord.
Speaker 1:Thank you, lord, lord, for your beautiful presence. Thank you, lord, for changing people's hearts. Thank you, lord, for letting people know that you are with them. Thank you, lord, that they know that you will never leave them nor forsake them, lord. Thank you, lord, for your double edged sword, your word. I thank you, lord, that people will make a decision, lord, to have a relationship with you that they will always find favor and prosperity and success in everything, through you and you alone. Thank you for your beautiful word, thank you for this time, thank you for your presence. Thank you, lord. In jesus name, I pray amen.
