Speaker 1:

today I have an amazing, something amazing to share with you from the word of god and I want to tell you that, uh, it comes from the time in the life of someone who's very famous and you know most people would have heard of this story and if not, you'll hear it today. But I want to tell you, I know, that, growing up, most people already knew the story, irrespective of what religion they were from or what background or culture they came from. And, as I said, at some time or the other, someone has heard this story or has been told this story. And if not, as I said, at some time on the earth someone has heard this story or has been told this story. And if not, as I said, you will get to know about it today. And today I am talking to you about the story in the bible. It's the story of David and Goliath, and I want to take you back to a time in I want to tell you that David was just a shepherd boy. In case you didn't know, he was just a shepherd boy and there was a man of God called Samuel at that time and there was a king ruling over Israel whose name was Saul, and God goes to Samuel and he tells him go to Bethlehem and see the see the significance of it.

Speaker 1:

David was part of a large family and he had six brothers and two sisters and his father's name was Jesse. And wait for it. He came from the city of Bethlehem. And God goes to Samuel and he tells him go to the house of Jesse, and I have picked the king, the future king of Israel, from there, and go and take some oil in a horn. Of course, these are old days. So he asked him to take some oil, anointing oil in a horn, and he says go there and I will show you who is this person that you have to anoint as the future king of Israel, hallelujah and Samuel being Samuel, a man of God. He does that. He takes oil and he goes to Bethlehem, to the house of Jesse, and it so happens he tells Jesse that the king of Israel has been chosen from your line and call all your sons that I may choose the one that God has picked and anoint him. And it so happens that Jesse calls his sons by the order of their birth, so he starts with the firstborn and then goes on to the last. And the bible says and calls it out and I'm reading it to their names. So he calls first Eliab, followed by Abinadab, followed by Shimea, and the bible says that Jesse made them pass in front of Samuel as the order of their birth. And then Nethanel, radai and Ozem are the names of all his sons, six sons that Jesse makes pass in front of Samuel. And with all these sons, god doesn't pick. And I want to tell you, the Bible even says that Samuel saw Eliab, who's the first, and he thought that himself for sure, this is the one that God has picked. And God at that time tells Samuel do not look at his appearance or his stature, for I have rejected him, for God sees not as what a man sees, but not at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart, oh hallelujah. So Samuel turns to Jesse and he says the Lord has not picked any of these. Do you have any other son? Do you have any other children? And Jesse replied there remains a youngest, he is tending sheep and Samuel says go, bring him.

Speaker 1:

And the Bible describes David as ruddy. Just in case you didn't know, ruddy means somebody who has a reddish complexion on the skin. So the Bible describes David as ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. Hallelujah will describe David as ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance, hallelujah. And in 1st Samuel, 16, 12. So he sent and he brought him. I'm reading to you from the word of God and now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes, and reading to you from the word of God. And now he was ready, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the Lord said arise, anoint him. This is he, oh, hallelujah. And then the 13th verse goes on to say and then Samuel took the horn of oil, anointed him in the midst of his brothers and listen to this. And the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. So you see, samuel asked Jesse to call if there's anyone left from his sons, and Jesse says yes, there's one in the field. And he goes and calls him. He's a shepherd, which means Samuel. Jesse probably looked at him as the most irrelevant son, the youngest, who probably he didn't even put him in the lineup. So I don't know what Jesse was thinking and that's not for me to decipher. But he goes and he gets him and the Bible says he's a good looking man who's ready, with a nice appearance and beautiful eyes. What a beautiful description. And then God says to Samuel arise and anoint him. This is him. And God told Samuel before that. I don't look at external appearances, I look at the heart, hallelujah.

Speaker 1:

And now I want to tell you it so happens in the very next chapter in the same book of Samuel, 1 Samuel, the Bible says the Philistines are against war with the Israelites. And this is a story. I was talking about David and Goliath, and I want to tell you that the Bible says there are two armies camped across each other. One is Israel, the other one is the Philistines. And the Philistines choose a champion and the champion comes forward and he challenges the army of Israel, saying if you send your best champion to me and we fight, one will be the slave to the other, depending on who wins. And the Bible says that for 40 days, day and night that is, twice a day this guy, this Philistine, the Philistine champion called Goliath he is from a place called gath, by the way comes twice in a day for 40 days and he's challenging the armies of israel and there's nobody there to stand up against him. For 40 days, twice a day, there's somebody coming in into the camp, standing in front of the entire army of israel and challenging them, and there's no one to stand up against him. And then this one day, the bible also says that three of Jesse's sons are in the army the Israel, the Israelite army. And it so happens that one day Jesse decides that he has to send David there to give his sons food, and David happens to go there just because he's getting food for his brothers, his three brothers who are in the army.

Speaker 1:

And before I get into that, I want to tell you this Philistine called Goliath is so scary. Let me tell you how the Bible describes him. The Bible says Goliath was someone who was six cubits and a span which is approximately nine feet, nine inches tall. He was almost 10 feet tall. Goliath was almost 10 feet tall. I've seen people who are 6 4 and 6 5. I've seen someone who's 7 2. I can't even fathom 9 feet, 9, that's almost 10 feet tall. And the bible says he had a bronze helmet on his head and the scale of his armor weighed 5,000 shekels of bronze, which is 82 plus kilograms, or 180 pounds of armor alone. He had bronze greaves on his shin, on his shins, and a bronze javelin slung across his shoulders, a javelin made of pure bronze, slung across his shoulders, and I can tell you that javelin probably looked like a toothpick in front of him. The head of the spear of the javelin alone weighed about 7 kgs, which is 16 pounds. Wow, this guy must have been scary.

Speaker 1:

So yes, this is the description of Goliath, the Philistine from Gath, who's standing in front of the Israelite army and challenging them twice every day for 40 days. And, as I said, david is there now to feed his brothers and the Bible says he leaves his flock with a keeper and to go to give his brothers food and when he reaches there, he sees this commotion of Goliath. So Goliath happens to come there in front of the Israelite army while he's there giving his brothers food and he's like what's this commotion about? He asks his brothers and he asks the people there, and then people explain to him who Goliath is and what's happening. And listen to this. This is amazing.

Speaker 1:

From first samuel 17, the 26th chapter, the 26th verse, I'm sorry, and I'm reading slightly. Before that, david spoke to the men who were standing there asking what will be done for the man who kills the Philistine and takes away the reproach of Israel. For who is this? And this is the 26th verse that says for who is this uncircumcised Philistine that should taunt the armies of the living God? Oh hallelujah. Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should taunt the armies of the living God? Oh, hallelujah.

Speaker 1:

Wow, david knew something, didn't he? The Bible said that the moment Samuel anointed him, the spirit of God mightily came upon David. He continued to remain a shepherd that's very clear from this story after that. But there's something about David. I mean, he knew something, didn't he? What kind of confidence is this? Who is this who challenges the armies of the living God?

Speaker 1:

And I'll leave out all the details, but I'll tell you this that when the news goes that there's this boy who's so confident about himself, it goes to King Saul and Saul calls him and he asks him whether he can go up against Goliath. And I'll tell you this. He even turns to him and he tells him you are just a youth, while this man, goliath, has been a warrior since youth. And then David goes and tells him the story about I'm just a shepherd and God has made me a shepherd, he says, and he says I have fought with bear and lion when they come for my sheep. David tells King Saul and he says and he also goes to explain how he chases after the bear and the lion and how, when they have taken any of his sheep, he goes after them and he kills them and he saves the sheep.

Speaker 1:

This is just a shepherd, and I really thought shepherd would just, you know, take his sheep to, you know green pastures and sit under a tree and, you know, have a twig in his mouth. That's how I picture the shepherd. I never thought that there'd be bears and lions involved. And david does talk about taking on a bear and a lion to save his sheep. And then david goes on to say this and this is where you should mark this down in your bibles, because this is one of the most powerful passages of scripture that I've heard and I've come across and I'm reading it to you today from the word of God Hallelujah, the 17th chapter, 1st Samuel, 17th chapter, the 37th verse. The 37th verse says the Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, he will deliver me from the hand of this philistine. Oh, hallelujah, oh, hallelujah.

Speaker 1:

And saul then turns to david and he says go, god, be with you, the lord who has delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from this philistine of the bear will deliver me from this philistine. The bible so goes on to say that saul gives him a helmet and armor and a sword, and david is just a shepherd. So he puts it on and he takes it all off and he says I can't do this because this is not tested by me. And the bible says he goes to a brook nearby, he takes a stick, he chooses five smooth stones from the brook and he puts it in his shepherd's pouch. He takes a sling in one hand and he goes to goliath, oh, hallelujah. And when goliath sees the young, ruddy youth in front of him, he turns and he looks at david and he says am I a dog that you have come to me with sticks? And the phistine cursed David by his gods.

Speaker 1:

The bible says and then David said to the Philistine this is another passage of scripture that you should mark it down and it's beautiful from again first Samuel, the 17, 17, the 45th verse onwards Hallelujah. And then David said to the Philistine you come to me with sword, a spear and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted, hallelujah, hallelujah. Whom you have taunted, oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah, oh hallelujah. You come to me with spear and sword and javelin, and I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, god of the armies of Israel, who you have taunted, oh hallelujah. And then he says the Lord will deliver you into my of Israel, who you have taunted, hallelujah. And then he says the Lord will deliver you into my hands and I will strike you down. This is the young boy standing in front of a warrior, a battled, hardened, ten-foot giant and intimidating warrior, and he just knows one thing. You come to me with spear and sword and javelin and I just come to you with a name. I just come to you with the name of the lord, and he's just a shepherd, he's not even a warrior, hallelujah.

Speaker 1:

I want to tell you this morning how do you look at your situations today, goliath and today's story, if I'd like to tell you, I'd like to look at goliath as the challenges that we face in our life on this planet and all the situations that come your way. You know, life has its ups and downs and, hallelujah, how do you look at your situations today? How do you look at your Goliaths, your giant, giant situations? How do you look at the mountains that come in front of you, because they will come, like the Israelites? Do you treat it like the Israelites did, who sat there for 40 days and took challenges twice every day and did nothing about it and sat in fear? Or do you take it up like David? Even though he was a shepherd, not even a soldier, he sat there, went in front of the king and Said I will go, send me because I know what the Lord will do for me.

Speaker 1:

I want to tell you the Bible says the Spirit of the Lord came upon David mightily. And I want to tell you we didn't live in the time of David, but I started with telling you that David knew something. We live in the time of after Jesus. And now you have a name. David didn't even have a name. You come to me with spear and sword and I come to you with the name of the Lord. He didn't even have a name. You have a name that you can use. And how do you look at your situation today? How do you look at your Goliath today? I come to you in the name of Jesus. Oh, hallelujah, who are you? I want to tell you.

Speaker 1:

David says to Goliath today, the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth and all the earth will know that there is a God in Israel. Oh, the Bible even says that G is a God in Israel. The Bible even says that Goliath cursed David by his gods. It says it in the Bible that Goliath must have taken the names of his gods and cursed David. And David turns around and tells him today, the earth, the birds in the sky, the beasts in the earth and the whole of the earth will know that there is a God in Israel. This guy has some confidence, so, and that they may know that the Lord does not deliver with spear and sword, for the battle is the Lord's and he will give you into my hands. Oh, hallelujah. Just in case you didn't know, I'll tell you how this battle ends.

Speaker 1:

He takes one of the smooth stones from his shepherd's pouch, he puts in the sling and he flings it at the giant, the 10 foot giant called Goliath. The bible says the stone sunk into his forehead. Oh, I can only imagine the power that must have been in that stone. It sunk into his forehead. The bible says the giant falls on the ground. David stands on top of him, takes his sword. I know this might sound gory, but he takes the sword and he chops off his head, he beheads him. Oh, you can only imagine the war cry. But I want to tell you there was an entire army sitting there, but it was the faith of just one guy david. Oh hallelujah, next level faith.

Speaker 1:

And I want to tell you this morning what is your challenge, what is your situation, what is your goliath?

Speaker 1:

Is it a financial mountain? Is it a herculean task which is personal or professional? Is it a health scare? Is it some part of your body that is giving you some sign and you don't know what to do? You're afraid of it. Is it a colleague at work who's coming against you and you think this is it? Is it your boss who's ridiculing you and making you think that you have no use? Is it that family member who's been putting you down for years on end and still is at it? What is it?

Speaker 1:

I don't know what it is, but all I'm asking you is it are you looking at it the way that david looks at it, or are you looking at it the way the israel army was looking at it, because I want to tell you this morning, through this word that I've shared with you and through the word of god, that your situation is nothing for god, and david didn't even have a name. You have a name that you can take, where the bible says every knee will bow, every knee will bow on the earth, above the earth and below the earth. Do you even understand that there is nothing? The bible says the earth is god's footstool, it's his footstool. Do you even understand the power that you carry with you? David knew it. Oh, david knew it.

Speaker 1:

I'm asking you whether you know it this morning, hallelujah, you should know who backs you up. You come to me with spear and sword, but I want to tell you this battle belongs to the lord, it does not belong to you, and david knew it. Do you know it this morning, hallelujah? And I want to leave you with this and this is something I believe that david knew in his spirit and he understood it and I'm going to leave this with you for you to meditate upon, mark it down in your bibles and meditate upon it. Sit up today itself, if you can, or maybe tomorrow. I don't know. I leave it to you, but sit and read it and meditate upon it, because I know in my spirit that this is what david understood in his core. He understood it, hallelujah. And I'm reading to you, and I'm leaving this with you this beautiful morning, from the book of isaiah, the 41st chapter.

Speaker 1:

The book of isaiah, the 41st chapter. The book of Isaiah, the 41st chapter, the 9th verse onwards hallelujah, isaiah 41, 9 says for whom I have taken from the ends of the earth and called from its remotest paths and said to you you are my servant, I have chosen you and not rejected you. Hallelujah, you know, david was called when he was not even in the lineup. He was called when he was a shepherd. For you, who have called from the ends of the earth, I have chosen you. Hallelujah, I have not rejected you. The world might reject you, I have not rejected you.

Speaker 1:

Hallelujah 41, 10 says do not fear, I am with you, do not anxiously look about you, for I am your god. I will strengthen you. Surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Oh, hallelujah, you see, don't look anxiously about you. It means just don't get up in your situation of haste and look left and right and be anxious about what's happening about you, don't? This is the word of god and he's telling you this morning. Do not fear, for I am with you. Don't anxiously, look about. I am your God. Hallelujah, I will strengthen you and I will uphold you with my right hand. Wow, hallelujah.

Speaker 1:

41.11 says behold all those who have angered you and this is for someone, and you can feel it and you know it in your spirit, it's for you. For all those who are angered at you, you they will be shamed and dishonored, oh, hallelujah. And those who contend with you will be as nothing and will perish. Amen. Those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored, just like Goliath was. And those who contend with you, who stand up against you, they will be as nothing, they will perish. The earth will know, the beasts will know, the birds in the sky will know the lord is with you, amen, hallelujah. Oh, thank you for your presence, lord. And the last one and not oh, I'm sorry, it's not the last one.

Speaker 1:

The 12th. 41, 12 says you will seek those who quarrel with you, but you will not find them. Amen, you will look about for the people who come against you won't find them. Those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent, amen. And the last one I want to leave you with is for I am the Lord, your God, who upholds your right hand, who says to you do not fear, I will help you. Amen, for I am the lord, your god, I am yeshua, I am jesus, I am your redeemer, who upholds your right hand, who says to you do not fear, I will help you. Oh, hallelujah, let's all pray, let's all stand up.

Speaker 1:

Dear lord, I thank you for this beautiful time. I thank you for your beautiful presence. I thank you for your double-edged sword that does not go back until it has achieved what it has been set out for. Lord, thank you for your beautiful promise. Lord, from isaiah 41, the ninth chapter, the ninth verse, onwards, lord, and I thank you that today you're renewing people's faith. I thank you, lord, you are renewing their hearts. Thank you, lord, you are making them understand and they can see who you are. I thank you, lord. You are changing situations on their head. Lord, I thank you. Lord, you are turning things around. I thank you. Just as there are Goliaths in people's lives, lord, you are crushing it, lord. I thank you, lord, that, just as there are Goliaths in people's lives, lord, you are crushing it, lord. I thank you, lord, that the Goliaths that have surfaced in people's lives that they know of have already been finished.

Speaker 1:

Situations might come in various sizes, colors, dimensions, names, but the battle does not belong to your people. The battle belongs to you and we leave it at your feet, hallelujah, we leave it and we Come to you, lord, using your name, the name that's above all names, where every knee will bow On the earth, above the earth and below the the earth. Lord, I thank you for your beautiful presence. I thank you for walking into some people's homes. I thank you for holding some people lord in your arms and they can feel you. Hallelujah, thank you, lord. I thank you, lord, for the healing that you've brought on. I thank you, lord, for the bronze gates that you are breaking. Thank you, lord, for the, for the chains that are being shattered. Thank you, lord. Someone is leaping off a mountain and you've given them wings. Oh, hallelujah, that they will soar as eagles do through your name. Hallelujah, thank you, lord. In Jesus name, I pray.
