The Battle Is The Lord's

Giants love headlines.
They arrive loud and oversized - a diagnosis, a deadline, a fear, a situation that suddenly feels bigger than everything else. Before you know it, the problem has taken over your story.
When a giant steps into view, perspective shifts.
Faith feels small. Options feel limited. Courage feels distant.
But what if the battle isn’t about fighting harder?
What if all you need is a new perspective?
What if you were never meant to face this giant the way you thought?
You may know the story of David and Goliath - but this message reveals a perspective that reframes the giant, the battle, and your role in it.
“You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a saber, but I come to you in the name of the Lord”
- 1 Samuel 17:45

I'll endure it. Today I have something amazing to share, and I want to get straight into it from the word of God. And today I want to talk to you about a story which is known across the globe. Most of us have some at some point of time have heard it. And if you've not, then you'll hear it today. In most places it's taught as a story. Or told as a story. But anyway, I'm going to get straight into it. And I'll cut to the chase. I won't keep any suspense. It's the story of David and Goliath. But before I get into the story of David and Goliath, I want to tell you about David. And I'll take you back to a time when David was just a boy. And there was a man of God called Samuel. And God goes to Samuel and says, He sends him to someone's house. And he says, Go to this house, the house of Jesse. And from his line, you will appoint someone as the king of Israel. Hallelujah. So he tells Samuel to go to the home. And by the way, just to let you know, Jesse's home is in Bethlehem. Hallelujah. And God has picked one of his sons to be the king of Israel. And I want to tell you these are old times, so you know the Bible says that Samuel takes a horn and he fills it with oil, that he may anoint the new chosen king by God. The king who's picked by God. Hallelujah. And then it so happens that um he goes to Jesse's home and he asks for his sons to be uh you know brought in front of Samuel, and then by age, of course, he starts bringing them in, starting with the eldest. And I won't get into that, but uh he brings all his sons in front of him, and the Bible says that none were picked at that point. In fact, the Bible says that there's one of the sons who comes in. Um I had made a note, his name is Eliab. And it says that when Samuel saw him, he himself thought that this is surely the one that God is going to appoint. And the Bible says he was a very good-looking, uh, tall, strong individual. And God tells Samuel at that time, and this is for somebody, don't look at his appearance or stature, for I have rejected him. For God sees not as what man sees, not at the outward appearance, but the Lord sees the heart. Hallelujah. So Samuel says to Jesse, No, this is not the one. This is not the one, this is not the one. So he goes through all his sons, and then he says, The Lord has not chosen any of these. Are these all your children? So Jesse did not even think it good enough to bring his last son in front of Samuel because he was pretty sure that he can't beat the guy. Nevertheless, he says, There remains a youngest, he's tending sheep, which means he was a shepherd. And Samuel says, Ask for him to be brought. And the Bible describes David. So obviously, he's called for it. There might have been a time, there might have been a period of wait, they must have sat. Uh, that's not mentioned in the Bible. But he was outside tending sheep, and outside doesn't mean outside the door. You have to know that they lived in very different times, so he's probably at some hillside somewhere. And the Bible says, when he when he comes, there are different uh beautiful ways of describing David, but I'm gonna share a few with you. It says, Ruddy with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. Another one calls it as reddish in color with beautiful eyes. Hallelujah! So I think reddish because he was constantly in the sun and being a shepherd with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And in 1 Samuel 16, 16, 12, when he comes into the room, the Lord said to Samuel, Arise, anoint him, for this is he. Hallelujah. Arise, anoint him, for this is he. And then the Bible says in the 13th verse of the 16th chapter of 1 Samuel Samuel took the horn of oil, anointed him in the midst of his brothers, and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. Hallelujah. Arise, anoint him, for this is he. Then waste a split second. Then look at the outward appearance, or the name, or the title, or the build, or the stature, or the structure, or the firstborn, or the looks, or the titles, or the responsibilities, but he looks at the heart, and the moment David comes in, the Lord says, Anoint him, this is he. Hallelujah. And Samuel, being a beautiful prophet of the Most High, gets up and anoints him. And the Bible says the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day. Hallelujah. And the story that I want to share with you today comes from the next chapter, which is the 17th chapter. And it so happens the Bible says that the Philistines have come against Israel. And as I said, some of you know the story and some don't, but today I'm going to share it. And the Bible says the two armies are camped opposite each other at a mountain. And the Bible says the Philistines send forward a champion challenging the Israelite army. So the decision at that time was you know, we send a champion, you send a champion, and let's not have too much bloodshed, and whoever defeats the other wins the war. So the champion is sent from the Philistine army, and he stands in front of the Israelite army and he challenges them, asking for a champion from them to come forth to pick his challenge. And whoever loses, as I said, would give into the other person's army. And the Bible calls this Philistine champion by the name of Goliath from Garth, a place called Garth. And let me tell you something about this guy. He was so scary. The Bible says he came. You have to understand this, and you should picture this. Some of you have wonderful imaginations and you should go for it. He came morning and evening, that's twice in a day, for 40 days challenging the Israelite army. And there was no one to answer his challenge. For 40 days, morning and evening, he came in front of the entire army asking for a challenger, and there was no one to answer the call of Goliath from Israel. That gives you a perspective. 40 days, twice a day, coming in front of an entire army, and Israel has no one. And I'll tell you why. They were scared. The Bible calls Goliath, it describes him as somebody who was nine foot. In fact, nine feet, nine inches tall. That's almost ten feet. Ten feet. Wow. The Bible describes his armor. The Bible describes his helmet. It talks about his armor weighing close to 80 plus kilograms, that's 180 pounds. It talks about the bronze greaves on his shins. It talks about the head of his spear alone weighing 8 kilograms or 16 pounds. And he was 10 feet tall. That must have been one solid challenger. So you can imagine why the entire Israelite army has no answer. And he's coming in 40 days challenging the army. So I want to tell you that David has three elder brothers that are in the army. And by at that time, the king was King Saul, the king of Israel. And it so happens that his son, his father Jesse, decides to send David on that particular day, on one of those days. By the way, he's already been challenging the armies of Israel for 40 days as Goliath. And Jesse decides to send his uh son David to give food to his brothers. So the Bible says he leaves his flock to a keeper and takes his brother's food and goes to the front line. And then he sees this commotion of Goliath coming in front of the Israelite army and challenging openly with no answer from Israel. And I'm sharing today with you from the word of God, 1 Samuel, the 17th chapter, the 26th verse. Hallelujah. And David is standing over there next to the army, next to his brothers, probably, and he says, Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should taunt the armies of the living God? Hallelujah. Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should taunt the armies of the living God? Hallelujah. Goliath was not even taunting him. Goliath was not even looking in his direction. But David had an issue. Who is this guy who's challenging the armies of the country who knows the living God? He definitely had a different approach on things. This is after the Spirit of God is upon him. And what kind of confidence is this? This is something else. Who is this who challenges the armies of the living God? Hallelujah. And as I said, I want to share the story with you, and I'll leave out the smaller details, but it basically goes down to the fact that Saul calls him and he makes him put on his armor. And David is only a shepherd. You need to understand, he came to the front line to give food to his brothers. I don't even know what Saul was thinking, but he just he was so confident. He was so confident that Saul just sent him in the front. Because, I mean, clearly for 40 days they had no challenger. Probably Saul would have given up. He would have given up saying, I think the next thing we have to do is now make a truce because there is no challenger in front of this 10-foot giant. So maybe we should just give it. Give Israel into his hands. But here's this boy who's come, who's a shepherd, who's just carrying food, and who seems pretty confident. So why don't we just send him? I guess Saul, in fact, tells him you're just a youth. And this man has been a warrior since youth. And listen to what David tells the king. And this is for someone this morning. Listen to what David tells the king from 1 Samuel 17, 37th verse. Amen. Hallelujah. He will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine. And Saul said to him, David, go and may the Lord be with you. You know, I'd like to look at it from a different angle. I think Saul had no hope. And he sees this young boy, and his only hope is, you know what? Go. And may the Lord be with you. For 40 days there was a challenger in front of them twice a day, and they had no answer. But here's this boy, a shepherd, who knew something about the living God. And he decides to send him. David is just a shepherd, and he puts it all on, and it says it it's it does not even fit him. The arms are too long, the rest of it is on the ground. So he takes it all off and he takes a stick, the Bible says, and five smooth stones from a brook nearby and puts it in a shepherd's pouch. He takes a sling in his hand and goes to Goliath. Hallelujah. And the Bible says, when Goliath sees this young boy, you know the Bible doesn't say how tall he was. I I think he must have been shocked to just see this small boy come in front of him with a stick. And he in fact says to David, Am I a dog that you come to me with sticks? And he cursed David by his gods. And then listen to David's response to Goliath. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, who you have taunted. Hallelujah. Another version says, Whom you have defiled. Hallelujah. So the Philistine sees this young boy, this 10-foot giant, sees this young boy coming in front of him with a stick. Of course, he probably sees a pouch, but he doesn't know there are five stones in there. He probably didn't see the sling. He saw the stick and he asks him, Am I a dog that you come to me with sticks? Because after 40 days of challenging twice a day, there's someone who comes in front of this giant as a challenger, and it's this young boy, and he's shocked. And he curses him by his God's names. But today I want to give you a perspective and I want you to put yourself in the mind of David. He's a shepherd, he's not even there in the army, he's not trained. In fact, the king even tells him, You're just a youth, and this guy has been in battle since youth. And David turns around and says, The Lord who has saved me from the lion and the bear will deliver me from this Philistine. And he says, So be it, God be with you. And he sends him. And yet, while standing in front of this 10 foot, I can't even imagine standing in front of somebody who will be 10 feet. I'm not in the army, I'm not a war veteran. But if I had to stand in front of someone who's 10 feet tall and had to go into a hand-to-hand combat with him, hallelujah. I'd need the faith of David. I'd ask God for the faith of David. You come to me with spear and sword and javelin. So you can come to me with whatever you want in the world. And I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies, who you have dared to taunt, who you have dared to defy. Hallelujah. And then he goes on to tell him today, the Lord will deliver you into my hands and I will strike you down. What confidence. Hallelujah. What confidence. I want to tell you this morning, David looks at a ten-foot giant in front of him. And I want to tell you that is the very fact that he was right in front of him meant he was in striking distance. No one else on that field besides him and that ten-foot giant in front of him, an intimidating warrior, a battle-hardened veteran. And David knows and understands nothing of war or battle. In fact, he could not even put on armor. It was too heavy for him. But he just knew one thing. I know the name of the Lord. Hallelujah. And this beautiful morning, I want to ask you, what are your Goliaths in your life? I know some of us are staring at them. I know some of you are seeing them in front of you right now. What are the situations that are in front of you that look impossible? And how do you look at the mountain that's in front of you? Like the Israelites did. Scared, trembling with fear, unable to confront it. And took the turns for 40 days and 40 nights. Which is a normal human thing to do. But here I'm just giving you a perspective from the life of someone who God called a man of my own heart. Or are you going to look at your situations like David, who's a shepherd, who's not even a soldier, but had the attitude of who are you? And how dare you even challenge me? How dare you even come in front of the armies of the country that knows the living God? How dare you challenge me, the son or the daughter of the most high? How dare you challenge the child of the most high? Let me even tell you that David did not even have a name. Hallelujah. He did not even have a name that he could put his faith in. And yet he had faith in the name of the Lord. Hallelujah. And I want to tell you this morning that you and I do. We do have a name. And going back to my question, take a few seconds to look at your Goliath right now. Some of you don't even need to close your eyes. And I want to ask you this morning, are you going to look at it the way the Israelites did? The entire Israelite army looked at Goliath for 40 days twice a day, morning and evening, and was scared. Or would you look at it like David, who by the way was just a shepherd boy? But he had a heart for God. He had a heart for God. The three people who were in the wall just in the sons were brought in front of the value of their mind or the strength of the heart that was taken this morning. I'm asking you, do you have the heart of David? The Bible says he's the same yesterday today and forever. And you also have a name. David did not even have a name, and yet he believed. How dare you come and challenge me? Come to you. You come to me with the things of the world. That's exactly what it means. The spill and the you know, the shield and the sword. But I come to you in the name of the Lord. It does not matter what you bring to me, I come to you with the name of the Lord. The name of the Lord. And you and I, this beautiful day, even have a name that we can use. You challenge me, the one who's been purchased by the blood of the Most High. How dare you even pass by and taunt? That is the attitude of David. How dare you even pass by and taunt? Can you believe that he told the king, the Lord who has saved me from the lion and the bear? Do you know that that actually means that he fought a lion and a bear? It's not a hypothesis, it's reality. And that's why he was so convinced. If the Lord can save me at a time when I didn't even know the Lord so in depth from a lion and a bear being a shepherd, now that I know the Most High, because the Bible says the Spirit of the Lord came upon him. Who is this ten-foot thing? Hallelujah. I come bearing the name of the Lord, and this beautiful morning, I want to tell you, I come bearing the name of Jesus. Who are you? How dare you even think you can challenge me? Hallelujah. David says to Goliath, let me tell you how the story goes. Today, the birds in the sky, the beasts of the earth, and all the earth will know that there is a God in Israel. Hallelujah. And they will know that the Lord does not deliver with spear or sword, for the battle is the Lord's. Amen. He will give you into my hands. Hallelujah. And I want to give you a revelation here. Do you know why he even said that? Because I believe David had the spirit of God upon him, the Bible calls it out after he was anointed. I believe he could see the spiritual world, and he knew this is not a battle that I see in person. This is a spiritual battle. And hence, because you come to me with things of the world, and I come to you with the spirit, with the spirit world behind me, the real world will see today what the spiritual world is going to do to you, Goliath. The birds will see it, the beasts will see it, and the earth will know that there's a God in Israel. Amen. So you can come to me with whatever. This battle is the Lord's, and He will give you into my hand. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. What confidence! And I want to tell you, David took one of those smooth stones, he put it into his sling, and he plung it in the direction of Goliath. It hits his head, it sinks into the forehead of Goliath, the Bible says, and he falls to the ground. David stood over him and killed him. In fact, he decapitated him with his own sword. Hallelujah. One of the best stories, I believe, in the Bible of next level, faith. Faith in the Most High. Only because he knew. And he had a heart, let me tell you. He had a heart. And this beautiful morning, you know, I've told you the Bible is beautiful because everything is interlinked, everything is a secret that's interlinked. And this beautiful day, you'll think I don't have the faith of David. That's okay. Faith is uh faith can be built. Remember that it's a muscle. But I want to tell you this beautiful morning that David had a different kind of heart towards God, and you can change your heart, which means you can change your perspective, you can change the way you look at things. And next time, in fact, right now, when you see these situations in front of you and you know what your gulayat is today, change the way you look at it. Is it a financial mountain that seems impossible to scale? Is it a Herculan task on the personal front? Is it a health scare? Is it a situation at work that seems bothering you for a while, chasing you and badgering you constantly? Is it a group of people putting you down, condemning you, telling you things like this is never going to happen? Whatever it might be today, I want to tell you, look at the situation like David did. Your situation is nothing in the sight of God, your challenge is nothing in the sight of God. The Bible says the earth is his footstool. If you understand what's a footstool, you'd understand what this passage of scripture means. Look at things how David did. Know who backs you up, know that Jesus is always at your right hand and nothing shall move you, is what the Bible says. And this is for someone in particular today. Somebody needs to hear this. It's from Isaiah 59.1. Behold, the Lord's hand is not so short that it cannot save. Noise is here, so dull that it cannot hear. Hallelujah. That's for you. I don't know who you are. You've been calling out to the Lord on something. But understand, behold, the Lord's hand is not too short that it cannot save. Noise is here, dull, that it cannot hear. He's heard you. The Bible says he hears you when you call him. He hears you, he will answer you. Remember, this battle does not belong to you. The battle belongs to the Lord and He will deliver you. Amen. Hallelujah. I'd like to pray. Dear Lord, I thank you for this beautiful day. I thank you for this beautiful time. I thank you for your double-edged sword that does not go back until it has achieved what it has been set out for, Lord. I thank you, Lord, that you hear a call, Lord. I thank you, Lord. Your word says that my voice has fallen upon your ears. I thank you, Lord. For being in complete control. I thank you, Lord, for your walls are continually before you. Our walls are continually before you, is what your word says. You hear our voice, you answer us, and most of all, Lord, all these situations that we've left at your feet this beautiful morning, and all your people have left at your feet, just as you did for the whole of Israel through the faith of David, one person. Today, all these challenges, these Goliaths, these mountains that we bring and we keep at your feet have been conquered already in the name of Jesus. Thank you, Lord, for your salvation. Thank you, Lord. Your people will see your salvation and they will know this beautiful day that you are their father and you are in control, and you have heard their cry, and your arms not short. This battle does not belong to them. This battle belongs to you, Lord, and you will deliver them. And the birds of the air, the beasts of the land, and the whole of the earth will see and know that you are their savior. Thank you for this beautiful time. Thank you for your beautiful presence that people can feel. Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful salvation that you have released upon people. I want to tell you some of your situations have already been crushed. Man, I can see gates being broken, I can see chains being torn apart. I can see mountains be disappearing into thin air. Hallelujah. The Lord will do it, he's not a respecter of people, what he did for David, he will do for you. But take a stand like David did. Take a stand in front of your mountain this beautiful morning, in front of your Goliath, and call it. Who are you who challenged me? Who are you who dare come against me? You come to me with things of the world. I come to you in the name of Jesus who backs me. Hallelujah. Thank you for this beautiful time, Lord. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
