Your Help Comes From The Lord

When life becomes overwhelming, our natural instinct is to focus on the problem.

The health report.
The financial pressure.
The conflict at work.
The tension at home.

The unexpected situation that seems to appear out of nowhere.
Panic has a way of pulling our eyes downward, fixing our attention on everything we cannot control.

But what if the answer isn't found by looking at the problem... but by looking up?

In this episode, we reflect on one of the most comforting promises in Scripture from Psalm 121:
"I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."

So where do you look when life feels like it's closing in?

Opening Word From Psalm 121

Today I'm going straight into the word of God, and uh I'm excited to share this word with you. And I want to tell you this beautiful morning that uh I'm getting straight into it, and some of you will feel the presence of God in a way that you have never experienced it. It's his word, it's his promise. And as I said, today I'm I'm uh going into this beautiful psalm. I'm not gonna call it out to you just yet on which psalm it is, but I'm going straight into it, and there's something I want to share with you from the psalm, this beautiful psalm of David. And let me tell you that the Lord called David a man of his own heart before he anointed him, as he was a shepherd, a young boy, to be the king of Israel. He called David as a man of his own heart. Hallelujah! And this is from King David. For those of you who don't know, he wrote the Psalms, most of the psalms, and he had a very deep understanding of the Lord. And this is from one of his psalms, and as I said, I will come back to it and tell you which one, but I'll just start with it, and it says, and this is for I think most of us this beautiful morning. I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help. My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. Hallelujah. I'm reading it again. I lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help. My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. Hallelujah. I want to tell you, King David, in all his understanding of God, and if God calls him a man of his own heart, clearly he understood God at a very different level. And he's telling you and me something so beautiful this morning that it's something so pure, it's something that very few people will relate to or even understand. But David, King David, knew it in his heart, and this was his core, and that's the reason why God picked him and chose him from a shepherd boy, from the line of Jesse, to be the king, the ruler of Israel, and to work his promise into Israel through King David. Hallelujah. And that's what I want to share with you this beautiful morning. Something that King David understood, something that he understood deep within his spirit. Lift up your eyes to the hills. Your help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Now you say these are just a set of words that David put together. Let me tell you, and I'll explain to you today through a beautiful story from the Bible what this means and how it comes to life. And I want to tell you another thing. I actually have a very short word today, but you need to understand very clearly that King David had a very different relationship with God. King David, uh you know, the Bible says from a very young age he was sought after to be killed by the king of Israel because he knew he was anointed to become the next king. And throughout his life he was running, but God kept protecting him. And that's why I said he had this deep understanding of God. And that king is telling you and me this morning that his help would come from the hills, he would look up to the hills, and that's where his help comes. His help comes from the Lord, his help came from the Lord. Hallelujah. And as I said, I want to share an example with you this beautiful morning. And he understood the secret, King David. And he shared it with us through his beautiful psalm. And I'm sharing it with you this morning. That same psalm. And as I said, I want to give you an example, and there's this beautiful example.

Hezekiah Faces An Impossible Siege

You know, one of these, you know, the Bible has some beautiful stories, but everything is relevant to something. And today I want to share with you a story from the life of a king whose name was Hezekiah. And he had a short stint in the Bible. He was a king of Israel. And the Bible so goes on to say, and you know, this is the time also in the time of um uh prophet Isaiah. Now, prophet Isaiah is also on the planet, and he is in Israel. And the Bible calls out this one time when there's this king, the king of Assyria, whose name is Sennacherib. And King Sennacharib takes three armies and he comes against Jerusalem. Now, some of you might know the story, some of you might not know the story. As I said, it's a very small little story in the Old Testament, in the book of Kings. And as I said, this guy, this king of Assyria, comes, his name is Sennacherib, and he brings three armies against Israel, and he challenges them. And while they are at the gates of the city, now just to let you know, King Hezekiah was in Jerusalem, and while they were at the gates of the city, they decide to call all the people of Israel, and they tell them, do not put your faith in King Hezekiah and his God. So you see, they call it out, and it's uh you know the story is beautifully explained in the Bible, and they come outside the city and they're calling out to the people and telling them do not put their trust in King Hezekiah and his God. And they offer Jerusalem a truce and they say, Surrender to the king, and don't trust in King Hezekiah and the promise of his God saving you. And then there's this time, there's this conversation between the two army generals where you know King Hezekiah's general tells them, Don't speak in Hebrew, because if you speak in Hebrew, the people will hear you and they'll get scared. So basically, they're just trying to make some sort of peace. But these guys are arrogant. And what's even more daring is they're telling Israel, don't put your faith in King Hezekiah's God. And the people are scared, and just to lay their claim, they decide that they will go around in the surrounding areas and completely annihilate it. And these three armies, I want to tell you, they go around the surrounding areas and they burn the place down just to prove. And every time they keep coming back to Jerusalem to tell the people, look, your God is doing nothing. And the Bible says the people are now scared. And the Bible says Hezekiah puts on sackcloth, he tears his clothes, and he goes into the house of the Lord to pray. And the Bible says he sends word to Prophet Isaiah to pray for them at these grave times. And as I said, while all of this is happening, the armies of Assyria are laying complete waste to everything around Jerusalem just to prove a point. And they keep coming back to say, don't put your faith in King Hezekiah or your God. And they keep mocking, saying, Where is your God? Where is your God when we destroyed this city? Where is your God when he destroyed that city? Are you still putting your faith in that same God who brought you out of Egypt and has left you? So these are the taunts that are coming through these three armies of uh King Senacherid. And listen to what happens next. I told you it's a beautiful story. I I don't know how I didn't know the story from before. And the word of the Lord came to Prophet Isaiah, and it says, For the king, for King Hezekiah, the Lord will make the armies of Assyria return. That's it. That's the word that comes to Prophet Isaiah, and Prophet Isaiah writes it down in a scroll and he sends it to King Hezekiah. And it says that the armies of Assyria will return. Hallelujah. And it so happens, and that's all the word that comes to Prophet Isaiah. And Prophet Isaiah, as I said, puts it on a scroll and sends it to the messengers to King Hezekiah. And the Bible says that Hezekiah takes this scroll, this letter, this writing, and he puts it on an altar and he prays to God. And I'm reading it to you from 2 Kings, the 19th chapter, the 19th verse. Now, therefore, O Lord our God, I pray save us from his hand, and all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are the Lord God, you alone. Hallelujah. I want to tell you, King Hezekiah had no option. This beautiful morning, everything around him has been laid to waste, and people who are laying waste to the surroundings are calling out in arrogance, where is your God? And just to prove it, they're destroying everything around, and Hezekiah has nowhere to go.

Prayer On The Altar And God’s Reply

And God doesn't seem to show his face at this time, except for one thing, I will make the army return. That's all he sends through a man of God. And he takes the scroll, he puts it on an altar, and Hezekiah prays, saying, Oh Lord, I pray you save us, you save us from his hand, which is King Senachalib. And all the kingdoms of the earth will know that you alone are God. Hallelujah. And I want to tell you after this prayer, the word, the Bible says, the word of the Lord came to Hezekiah again, through Prophet Isaiah. And I'm reading it to you from 1932, and you should mark it in your Bible. Therefore, this is what the Lord says about the king of Assyria. He will not come to the city nor shoot an arrow there. He will not come before, neither with a shield, nor with a head up of assault against it. Hallelujah. So first God started with saying that he's going to turn this army around and they will leave. And then, because Hezekiah is in this point where he has called out to the Lord, saying, You alone are my Lord, I look to you. You save us. Because you alone are my God. Hallelujah. So something's happened now. And the Lord has sent another message to Prophet Isaiah, saying, Thus says the Lord concerning Assyria, the king of Assyria, he shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow here, nor come before it with a shield, nor build a siege against it. By the way he came, I'm going on to read the 33rd also. By the same way he shall return, he shall not come into this city. Hallelujah. That he is protecting his boundary. He's making a promise that he will protect the boundaries of the city. Nothing shall come to your city. Nor shall there be an arrow. Nor shall there be even an enemy shield. Nor will they build a siege mound. I'm sorry. If if you don't know what's a siege mound, it's basically a place that's that's that's an area of protection, and they attack from behind. By the way they came, they shall return. Hallelujah. And then listen to this next passage of scripture from 1934. For I will defend the city to save it for my own sake and for my servant for David's sake. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I want to tell you this beautiful morning. There's something I started with. It was a psalm of David where he says, I look to the hills, and where does my help come from? I want to tell you something. Do you know that there's a very big time difference between this story and David? And why is it that God is calling out King David in the scripture? I will defend. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. And I want to tell you something. And this is how the story actually ends. Hezekiah only had two promises from God. Number one, that I will make them return. And number two, just because he got on his knees and he prayed to God, he said, Nothing will come to your city, nor an arrow, no shield of the enemy, nor will there be a mound build built in your city for anyone to even launch an attack. Hallelujah. And see what God decides to do. In 2 Kings 19:35, I'm reading it to you directly from the word of God. And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the Lord went out and killed the camp of the Assyrians 185,000. And when the people arose in the morning, there were only corpses all dead. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I want to tell you this beautiful morning that there was something that King Hezekiah knew. He said, No matter what happens, I'm going to put on sackcloth, I'm going to tear my clothes, and I'm going to turn to the one person that I've always turned to, the creator of heaven and earth. From where comes my help? My help, it comes from the hills, from the creator of heaven and earth. And King Hezekiah turned to the one thing he knew would defend him. And because of the stand that he took, he had nothing else that he could do. Let me tell you, if you read the story, there's nothing he could do against these armies. These were very, these were three very powerful armies that came against Jerusalem. And there was nothing that he could do. But he just decided to do one thing, is turn to the Lord. And the Lord decided, for his own name's sake, and for the faith of King Hezekiah, and for good measure, the Lord even decides to mention King David's faith in the same story. The Bible says that he sends, wait for it, one angel. He just sends one angel. Hallelujah. The Lord, from where comes my help? From the hills, from the heavens, he sent down one angel and he destroyed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one shot. The Bible doesn't say anything else about what happened that night, besides when Jerusalem got up in the morning, there were 185,000 corpses around the city. Wow. And now I'm coming to the main crux.

Applying The Battle To Our Lives

I'm going back to the scripture which I started with, and I'm going to tell you which scripture it is. And I want to tell you this beautiful morning. Sometimes there are these battles that come against us and we don't understand them. There are these things that happen around us. Personally, maybe it's a family person, maybe it's somebody at work, maybe it's a health situation, maybe it's a financial situation, maybe it's something that you're just staring at, which just seems impossible, came out of nowhere, just like King Hezekiah's situation. But this beautiful morning, look at things how King David did, and understand it in your core. That your help comes from the Creator of heaven and earth. Your help comes from the hills. Your help comes from the Lord who has purchased you with a very heavy price. And irrespective of what will happen around you, in your situation, in your life, in at work, remember one thing. No one will dare come against your master, your creator, your helper. The one who sits in heaven and who looks at your situation, knowing fully well what's happening. The one who sits in heaven, whose earth is his footstool. He knows you by your name. This battle, I want to tell you, does not belong to you, it belongs to him. And before I come back to this beautiful scripture, there's someone who needs to know this, and this is for you. This is from Romans 8:34. You should mark it down. I don't know who you are. Who is it who condemns the scripture says? Is it Christ who died and furthermore is also risen? Who's even at the right hand of God, who makes intercession for us? Oh, hallelujah. Hallelujah. I want to tell you this morning. If you didn't understand that passage of scripture, it's Romans 8:34. I want to tell you who dare condemn you, who has been purchased by the price of Christ's blood. Let me tell you that he intercedes on your behalf. If you don't understand the meaning of intercede, let me tell you sometimes you're too low where you don't even know what to pray. It's Jesus who prays on your behalf. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Somebody needed to hear this this beautiful morning. Can you even fathom Jesus praying on your behalf? Romans 8 34 says, When you are in that position and you don't know what's happening around you, remember, Jesus intercedes for you. Jesus intercedes for you. Hallelujah.

Psalm 121 Promises For Daily Protection

I told you some of you will feel the presence of God this beautiful morning. And I'm going back to the beautiful psalm, it's Psalm 121. And this is his promise for you this morning. Psalm 121 3 says, He will not allow your foot to be moved. Amen. The Lord is your keeper. The Lord is your hear at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil. He'll preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in. From this time forth and forevermore. Amen. Amen. I want to tell you this beautiful morning, just as King Hezekiah did not know what was happening. And he decided to turn to the one thing he knew would save him. The creator of heaven and earth. His father. This beautiful morning, I want to tell you, no matter what situation you're in or what you're staring at, your help comes from the hills. Your help comes from the creator of heaven and earth. The one who made the heavens and the earth. The one who's sitting at the right hand of God, the one who intercedes on your behalf. And he will not allow you to be moved. I want to tell you, he does not sleep nor slumber. He who has purchased you with his blood will not sleep when it comes to you. Hallelujah. He is your keeper, he is your shade. He'll preserve your soul. He will preserve your going in and your going out. From this day on. I thank you for your double-edged

Closing Prayer And Final Encouragement

sword that does not go back until it has achieved what it has been set out for. I thank you, Lord, this beautiful day. No matter what your people are going through, Lord, I thank you, Father, that you are fully in control. And no matter, as I said, what the situation may be big or small, we turn to you this beautiful morning, Lord. We leave it at your feet. Where does our help come from? We know our help comes from the hills. Our help comes from you, the creator of heaven and earth, strong and mighty in battle, our Father, our Redeemer, our help comes from you, O Lord. And I thank you this beautiful morning for all the situations, Lord, that we leave at your feet. And just as you did for King Hezekiah, you will send your word concerning us. There are some situations that are so much larger than us, Lord. This battle does not belong to us, this battle belongs to you. And just as you did for King Hezekiah, you are a redeemer and lifter of our head. We will not need to fear the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence by night, nor the destruction that lay at noon. Thousand may fall at our left and ten thousand at our right, but it will not come near us. I thank you, Lord. You are our shield and our buckler. And under your wings we will take refuge. Under your name we will take refuge. Thank you for this beautiful time. Thank you for your beautiful presence that people can feel. And whatever the situation is, Lord, whatever it might be, we leave it at your feet. Knowing fully well that everything is ye and amen in your name. And you know the plans you have for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans with a hope and a future. Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful time. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
