His Promise, Our Purpose

We’ve all read the Beatitudes.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit…”
“Blessed are those who mourn…”
“Blessed are the meek…”
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…”

They are some of the most familiar words Jesus spoke during His time on earth. But familiarity can sometimes make us read Scripture without truly stopping to understand what Jesus was saying.

What if we looked at the Beatitudes differently?

Not simply as beautiful verses to read, but as a blueprint for how Jesus calls us to live.

In this episode, we slow down and look beneath the words of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount to understand what each Beatitude really means — the promise within it, the heart behind it, and the instruction it leaves for us.

So what does Jesus actually mean when He calls someone “blessed”?

• Is being blessed really about having an easy, successful, or comfortable life?
• Why does Jesus describe the poor in spirit, the meek, those who mourn, and those who are persecuted as blessed?
• What promises are hidden within these seemingly simple statements?
• And what do the Beatitudes reveal about the kind of person Jesus is calling us to become?

The Beatitudes are not simply a list of blessings.

They are an invitation to live differently.

A way of living that points us towards the very purpose for which we are here.

Jesus’ Ministry And The Big Setup

Hallelujah. So I want to start today this morning with telling about Jesus and his wonderful ministry on this planet. And I know you've heard it many times from here, but it can never get too old. So as you know, most often than not, as I said, I've always shared a brief about Jesus and what he did when he was on this planet here. But here goes yet again. He went from city to city preaching the good news, the Bible says, about the kingdom of heaven. And he healed all kinds of sickness, every kind of disease, the Bible says, every kind of disease. He healed the oppressed, he freed the unclean of the spirits that they were possessed with. People followed him everywhere. The news about him spread from city to city. And those who were suffering from various diseases, the Bible says pains, diseases, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics, and he healed them all. Hallelujah. And today I'm going to share something with you from you know the time when Jesus uh spoke directly to the people. And in fact, uh, you know, this uh this part is actually in only two books in the Bible. One is in the book of Matthew, the other one is in the book of uh Luke. And uh it's a time when Jesus actually speaks to crowds for the first time. Hallelujah. And uh his disciples are with him, and as I said, it's documented in the book of Matthew and in the book of Luke. And in one book, Jesus slams up a mountain, and his disciples and the crowds

Why The First Public Teaching Matters

follow him, and he sits down and begins to teach them. In another book, it says that Jesus goes up on a mountain and spends the night there praying, and at daybreak, he calls his disciples to him, chooses 12 of them as apostles, and then speaks to the crowds once he goes down the mountain. And it says he sits at the level place, which means you know, something like that's like a plateau. And he has many followers and many people who want to be healed. And the Bible says that Jesus begins to teach his disciples and the crowds as they are gathered there. Hallelujah. But that's not the important part. What I want to share with you today is important about what Jesus teaches his disciples and the crowds. And I want to tell you this morning that you know Moses also got commandments from God on a mountain. Now that was the Old Testament. When Jesus comes on this planet, I want to tell you everything changes. Everything is called A D and B C because of him. And the significance of what I'm sharing with you today is the time when Jesus has for the first time decided to speak to people directly and give them direction. And the Bible says he speaks with authority on what they need to do. Hallelujah. But he starts with the blessing, and this is what I'm going to share with you this beautiful morning, and it's from the book of Matthew, the fifth chapter. Hallelujah. Matthew, the fifth chapter. And I want to tell you that some of you will feel God's presence today in a tremendous manner and enjoy it.

Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit

Hallelujah. And I'm getting straight into it this beautiful morning from the book of Matthew, the fifth chapter. It's called the Sermon on the Mount. For some of you, it's called, or you know it as the Beatitudes. And I'm going straight into it, and there's a blessing for anyone who receives this, because this is the first blessing that Jesus released. Hallelujah. And he starts with saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Amen. Hallelujah. Now you'll think, what's the meaning of poor in the spirit? And let me tell you that there are multiple ways that people can give you different meanings of this or dissuade you from the real meaning, but I'll tell you what's the real meaning. Blessed are those when you have nothing else to depend on but God alone. Hallelujah. That's being called poor in the spirit because then you're fully dependent only on God. Hallelujah. And those times in life when you are, you know that situation has made you go on your knees and you're that dimly burning wick, as the Bible talks about. That's the time when you depend on Him. Hallelujah. Not on your own smarts, not on your wonderful accolades and your educational background and your work experience and uh whatever you want to call it. And that's when it says, Blessed are the poor in the spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Hallelujah. And that's basically telling you and me this morning that when you don't depend on your own smarts, when you don't depend on your 5 a.m. friend, when you don't depend on your support system, and when you depend on him, that's somebody who's poor in the spirit now. And that's when you get blessed, because now all your situations will be blessed through him. Hallelujah. I hope you understood it. It's like, you know, it's like an empty glass. And the more you decide to go to certain places to fill that glass with is exactly what the glass will be filled with. So if you go and talk to your friend who's um, you know, deeply soaked into something else, now you fill your glass with something from there. Then you go to another person who fills your glass with something else that they believe is the right way of doing it. Now your glass is filled with something else. And you go to a third and a fourth, and everyone has their own little concepts of stuff. And now you have a glass that's filled with multiple things, which are earthly wisdom. And I can tell you that glass is not going to be the best glass to swallow. And that's what it means. Blessed are those who are poor in the spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God. Don't look at it as any other way, but you only depending on God. Hallelujah. And then he goes on to say from 5.4, Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. I want to tell you, Jesus is our help. And he's telling you and me this morning that he is our help. And I want to tell you that it happens to all of us. Mourning is a normal human uh uh emotion, and you know, there's a reason why Jesus came on this planet as a human being, he could have sent something else down. He yeah he could have come, I mean, he would not have come in any other form, so I won't talk about that, but he would have done so many other things. Why did he decide to come down on this planet as a human and then climb on a cross for you and me? So I want to tell you this morning, I'll tell you why he did that. Is because he's well acquainted with pain, he's well acquainted with suffering, he's well acquainted with hurt, he's well acquainted with being left alone, he's well acquainted with loss. He had a friend on this planet called Lazarus. The Bible says that when Lazarus was reported to him as Lazarus has died, he wept. So I want to tell you that this is a blessing from Jesus. Where somebody probably today has gone through something. And if you're mourning this morning, I want to tell you you are blessed. For you will be comforted, the Bible says, for they shall be comforted. Hallelujah. And let me tell you who's your comfort? Is Jesus is your comfort this morning? You know, it's not necessarily you mourning because there's a death. You know, you could be low in the spirit, you could be, you know, battling with something, there could be a situation that's held you down. In all these situations, I want to tell you, you are blessed, for you will be comforted by the most high. In fact, Psalm 34, 18, and you should really mark this down. It says the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, he saves those who are crushed in the spirit. You see, you could be brokenhearted for so many reasons, and it's the same as uh the scripture from Matthew 5.4. You could be brokenhearted because of a person, you could be brokenhearted because of something that happened at work, it could be brokenhearted because of a health situation, you could be brokenhearted because you, I don't know, lost a pet who was with you for many years. You could be brokenhearted because your sibling turned on you. You could be crushed in the spirit for so many things. But this morning, Jesus is telling you, you will

Mourning And Real Comfort In Christ

be comforted, hallelujah. He doesn't say I'll check my schedule, he doesn't say it will only happen at 12 in the afternoon. He says, You shall be comforted, Abraham. Hallelujah. You are blessed and comforted at your time of mourning, according to his word, hallelujah. And then Matthew 5 5 goes on to say, Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. And goes on to 6, which says, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Amen. Hallelujah. Let me tell you what meek means. You know, it's uh it's a word that can be lost. A lot of people say, I need to be like a dove. Yes, the Bible does say you need to be like a dove, but it also says that you need to be as shrewd as a serpent. So don't miss it. But hey, um, I'm gonna tell you about meek, and let me tell you what meek says. And you know, if you actually go to the Oxford Dictionary and you type meek, let me tell you the words that pop up: gentle, patient, calm, showing restraint. Do you know what all these words relate to? Love. Hallelujah. So I'm gonna reword this for you for an understanding, a better understanding this morning. Blessed are those who know how to love, for they shall inherit the earth. Amen. You know there's a passage of scripture in Corinthians which defines love exactly by these words that are defined in meek. Hallelujah. So don't think that you need to be this timid little person that walks around because that's not what this passage of scripture means. You don't have a spirit of timidity. Blessed are the meek, that means the ones who know how to show love. And it says you will inherit the earth. These are the words of Jesus. You will inherit the earth. Amen. Not weak, meek. He's called the good shepherd. He's also called the lion of the tribe of Judah, not weak, but meek, the one who shows love. Hallelujah. And then it goes on to say, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Let me tell you something about what the Bible says about righteousness, about what you and I think is righteousness. You know, we think that if we go and, you know, these are good things to do, so don't get me wrong. But anything that's done by us is man-made. And the Bible says our righteousness is like filthy rags, like the dirty little cloth that you hang out somewhere else, but you don't want it in your house, you want it in your garage. That's righteousness. So let me tell you what is righteousness according to this passage of scripture, when you hunger and thirst for one thing, and that's Jesus. Hallelujah. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. It's only Jesus that fulfills righteousness on this planet. Hallelujah. And then it goes on to say, For they shall be satisfied. Amen. Blessed are those who seek Jesus, in other words, who hunger and thirst for him. He is righteousness, and he will comfort you, he will save you, he will satisfy you. Hallelujah. What a beautiful passage of scripture. The Bible says, Seek and you will find. And if you seek Jesus, I will tell you this morning, you will find him. And you will be blessed according to his word. These are the words of Jesus. If you hunger and thirst for me, you shall be satisfied. Hallelujah. What a beautiful, beautiful passage of scripture. Blessed are the merciful. 5-7, Matthew 5-7. For they shall receive mercy. You know, at some point in time, uh, you know, I told you there were the Ten Commandments when Moses was on this planet, and you know, everyone after that lived on the Ten Commandments. But then there's this time when Jesus is walking on the planet, and somebody goes and tells him, Lord, tell us what are the most important commandments. And then he says, Love your father, uh, love your father with all your heart, soul. And then he goes on to say, love your neighbor as yourself. Love my neighbor as myself. Take a step back. Just think about the money you spent on yourself the last month. That's what the Bible says you're supposed to spend on your neighbor. Hallelujah. I don't think any of us would do that, but that's a specific example of how God wants you and me to live our life. And he's telling us you have to love your neighbor as yourself. You have to love the people around you, is what the word neighbor means as yourself. And this is, you know, a blessing in the same manner. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. I want to tell you already when I started that there's a blessing in this scripture that I'm releasing today for you, aligned with the word of God only. And I want to tell you that you need to learn how to show mercy, you need to learn how to forgive. It's the way of God, and that's how He wants us to be. And that's exactly why Jesus says, Blessed are the merciful, because that's when you receive mercy. Have you ever been in a position where you've sat and said, Lord, give me mercy or give him mercy? Sometimes we do that. The only way you can actually get that is if you do it yourself. The next one is fabulous. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Hallelujah. You'll say, not possible. Why

Meekness As Love And True Righteousness

is it not possible? It's the words of Jesus. It's absolutely possible. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Do you know the Bible says that there was a person, actually, there were two of them who were just picked up and taken into heaven. One of them was somebody by the name of Enoch before the time of uh uh Elijah, because he was a second person who was taken up into heaven. And the Bible doesn't say much about Enoch, but I can tell you one thing. I think he was just pure in heart. And you'll say, what's the meaning of pure in heart? I'm pure in heart. I watch only good things on TV, I only eat veg food, I eat fruits five days a week. Good for you, but that's not what this passage of scripture means. I'll tell you what it means. Jesus came down on this planet in human form and he died on a cross for you and me. He gave up his blood for you and me. And I'll tell you what Ephesians 5.26 says, and you should mark it down because it's a beautiful passage of scripture. Keep his word daily, and you will be washed in his word and become pure in heart. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Ephesians 5.26, it says, keep his word daily, and you will be washed in his word and become pure in heart. Hallelujah. I told you the Bible is a beautiful book, everything is interlinked with everything else, and it's a secret to unfold them. And when Jesus is telling you and me this morning, blessed are the pure in heart, for you will see God. I tell you how you be pure in heart is because, and when you keep his word daily, that's how you'll be washed with his word, and that's how you become pure in heart. Hallelujah. It's Ephesians 5.26. And you will see God, Jesus says. That means Enoch spent time with God every day. You can only imagine the quantum of time he probably spent because the Bible says Enoch was just picked up by God. Wow, hallelujah. Matthew 5, 9, blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Hallelujah. Don't put people in angst, don't add fuel to the fire. Just be the peacemaker, walk away. You'll say it's not possible for me to do that. You don't know what these people have done to me. I absolutely need to go and put fire on all of them. No, no, no. Just leave it, it's not God's way. And that's when you get blessed, when you are a peacemaker. That's when you're called the Son of God, sons of God, hallelujah, daughters of God. Hallelujah. Let the situation go. Walk away. God will handle it. Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness. For there is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Some of you can feel the presence of Jesus. Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. I've told you what righteousness is. Righteousness is Jesus. And you are blessed if you're persecuted in his name. And let me tell you something. You'll say, No, I was not persecuted by anyone who took Jesus' name. No, it's a spiritual thing if you don't get it. It's a spiritual thing. This world is not operated by what you see. This world is operated by the spiritual world. So when something comes against you, when anything comes against you, remember you're being persecuted by that person who's in front of you. That's just flesh and blood. But it's coming from what's behind that person or that thing or that situation that's attacking you. And that's only because you believe in Jesus. Hallelujah. And for that. You will inherit the kingdom of heaven. Hallelujah. It's as simple as that, is how Jesus says. And you say, Oh no, that means there will be problems. No. That's not what I said. When you accept Jesus in the spiritual world, it bows down to him, it has no control over you. Hallelujah. But of course, you need to understand that for you to be able to do it into the blessing.

Mercy And Purity Through The Word

I want to tell you, you'll be blessed when you stand up for Jesus. You'll be blessed when you stand up for God. You will be persecuted. You're having false allegations against you, people are coming and putting a blame on you. That means you're getting persecuted in the spirituals. No problem. Remember, it's actually a blessing because the Bible says this battle does not belong to you. This battle does not belong to you. It's the Lord who fights on your behalf. Hallelujah. It's the Lord who fights for you. What? Hallelujah. Hallelujah. You know Elisha knew it. Which is why when he had five armies, he had five armies surrounding them. He had five armies surrounding him in a city that he was living in with one servant. But he knew this: that this battle does not belong to me, it belongs to the Lord. He fights for me. And he asked God, open my servant's spiritual eyes that he may see. And the servant's name was Gehazi or Gehazai. And the Lord opened his eyes and he saw an army, chariots and horses of fire surrounding the armies that surrounded them. Hallelujah. Why don't I tell you this beautiful morning? This battle is not yours. If you're persecuted, just remember you're being persecuted for Jesus' name. Which is a name that's above all names, where every knee will bow. That means this battle is already won. Hallelujah. And then it goes on to say in 5 12, rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great. Hallelujah. Amen. And for the same way that they persecuted the prophets who were before you, hallelujah. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is in heaven. For the same way, they persecuted the prophets before you. Hallelujah. I want to tell you this morning. Jesus is comparing you to a prophet. Because they were persecuted too. And you say, but they were prophets. Yeah, I'm sure. I know they were prophets. But that's why they spoke to God in person. That's why they called down fire from heaven. But as I said, it's your perspective on how you want to look at it. Hallelujah. You have a great reward in heaven, Jesus is telling you and me this morning. And I want to leave you with something that's really important. Because after this, Jesus releases all these blessings. And he's basically, you know, he's basically giving you and me a roadmap. And you need to understand that this, you know, these this passage of scripture is pretty deep. For Jesus to make this his first teaching, this is pretty deep. For you to understand this is deep. But this was Jesus' first teaching. And immediately after that, he says something, which I want to leave you with this morning because I can't

Peacemakers And Persecution In The Spirit

give you the blessings of God and not give you the next passage of scripture. Which goes on to say that you are the salt and light of the earth, Jesus says. And it's really important for you to understand this this morning. I'd like to like you to look at it as a new jD, a new job description for this new job that you've got, that he's giving you and me. I told you there's old testament and new, there are new laws. It's nothing complex, it's pretty simple. I already told you he compared you to his apostles and his prophets. And he says, You are the light and salt to the earth. And if the salt loses, has become tasteless, he says, how can it made be salty again? It's no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under the foot by men, and that's not a nice thing to hear. And then he goes on to talk about us being the lamp and the light of the world, the light of the world. That you are on a lampstand and you don't go under a basket, but instead are set on a hill to light, to be a light to all who are in the house. Hallelujah. Understand it in your spirit this beautiful morning. I've already released the blessing of the Most High upon you this morning through the words of Jesus. But immediately after that, he says, You are a disciple unto me. I will never leave you nor forsake you, his word says. But he's also telling us that you need to be salt and night and look, he gives you one small little revelation here, Jesus. Because if you lose your saltiness, you'll be trampled underfoot by men. I believe that's when you're giving authority to men. When you lose your saltiness, it's Jesus' words, it's not mine. You are salt to the earth, and if you've become tasteless, you'll be trampled underfoot by men. Do you see? These are the words of Jesus. I want to tell you this beautiful morning, and I want to leave you with this passage of scripture. I'm not here to give you bad news, I'm only here to give you good news. And Jesus released a blessing on all of us, saying that believe in me. Put your faith in me, in Jesus. Put your trust in him, put your trust in his name, put your trust in what he did on that cross. And you will be blessed because then you're aligned to him, you're aligned to his word, and you will inherit the earth, his word says. You will inherit the earth. If you only understood that passage of scripture, it says it does not say you'll inherit two kilometers in one small little latitude somewhere. No, it says you will inherit the earth if you missed it. These are the words of Jesus. Blessed are the gentle, for they will inherit the earth. What does that even mean? It means you will inherit the earth. That's what it means. And today I want to leave you with this beautiful passage of scripture. But you need to understand very clearly from this uh I already told you the only way for you to be meek, for you to understand this beautiful beatitudes that Jesus released, this beautiful blessing that Jesus released onto us. And the only way you can do that is to be attached to your Father, to be attached to the world, to be attached to the Holy Spirit at all times. From James 1.17, you heard it a few weeks ago. Every good gift and every perfect gift comes down from the Father of Lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Amen. Hallelujah. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Hallelujah. Amen. That means there's no change in God, He's always there, He's in the same place. The only reasons why things change in our life is because we shift. This beautiful morning, I want to give you a perspective. There's a reason why Jesus said, I am the vine and you are the branches. If you abide in me, all good things abide in you. Understand that the life on this planet is a spiritual thing. We live it in the physicals, but it's a spiritual thing. And if you understand it now that you are the branch and he is the vine, you are attached to him. And now every good and perfect gift from heaven can only come down to you if you are attached to him. The Father of lights, he is the light of the earth. And when you are attached to him, you become the light to the earth. Hallelujah. I hope you understood this in your spirit, it's a deep word. But in your own time, go and read Matthew, the fifth chapter, and all these blessings are yea and amen. Unto him. The author and perfecter of our faith, unto him, Jesus, who came down on this planet to die on a cross for you and me. Hallelujah. Every good gift comes from our Father, and the only way you can align with that gift is when you align to him. Every day, take some time out. Every day. Sit with him, talk to him. He says, Shut the door and I will answer you. Shut the door and I will speak with you. Hallelujah. That's all you need to do. So this beautiful day, make a decision to shut that door and talk to Jesus. He will bless you. He's not a respecter of people. And I want to tell you,

Salt And Light Daily Alignment

understand very deeply that you are salt and light to the earth. You have to do certain things that He's asked you to do. And if you don't know how to start, just go and share this link with someone. Because that's all that you need to do is introduce Jesus to someone. That they may come here and join and hear the word of Jesus and why he came. Hallelujah. I'd like to pray. Dear Lord, I thank you for this beautiful word, Lord. I thank you for your double-edged sword that does not go back until it has achieved what it has been set out for. I thank you, O Father, as you've made a salt and light to the earth. I thank you, Lord, today people are making a decision to get realigned with you, their father. That they may reach you, connect with you, be with you. As you are the vine and the other branches, Lord. Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful blessing from the book of Matthew. And thank you, Lord, that everything is yeah and amen. Unto us. Through you, through your name that's above. The name that's above all names, where every knee will bow on this earth, above the earth and below the earth. Thank you for this beautiful time. Thank you for this, for your presence that people can feel. Thank you, Lord, you're renewing our spirit, you're changing our heart. You're making it ever true. You're changing our heart, you're making it be like you. Fill us with your love that we may that we may inherit the earth. Fill us with your spirit that we are more than conquerors through you. Thank you for this beautiful time, Lord, in Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
