Face Your Goliath

Fear rarely arrives all at once.

It creeps in quietly when we are at our lowest. It repeats the same threat, magnifies the problem in front of us, and waits for us to believe that the outcome is already decided.

That is perhaps why the story of David and Goliath still speaks so powerfully to us today.

Because Goliath wasn't just a giant standing in front of an army.

He was a voice that created fear. A voice that tried to define the future before the battle had even begun.

And we all have our own Goliaths.

A health crisis.
Financial pressure.
Conflict at work.
A relationship falling apart.
A personal struggle that has been following you for months—or even years.

So what happens when the giant in front of you seems bigger than your ability to overcome it?

In this episode, we revisit one of the most famous stories in the Bible and look more closely at the journey of David—from the young shepherd who was anointed for a purpose, to the moment he heard Goliath's challenge and refused to accept the narrative of fear.

What is particularly powerful is the way David spoke.

Before anything changed in his circumstances, David remembered what God had already done.

“The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me…”

Faith is often revealed in what we believe—and in what we speak—before we see the outcome.

So how do we build that kind of faith?

• What has God already brought you through?
• What past victory can remind you of His faithfulness today?
• And what happens when you stop allowing fear to define your future?

David gives us a practical pattern: remember God's track record, and then apply that faithfulness to the battle you are facing right now.

But trusting God doesn't mean becoming passive.

The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But victory belongs to the Lord.

There is a part for us to play.

Prepare.
Show up.
Take the step.
Do what is within your hands.

And then trust God with what is beyond your control.

The Bible reminds us that no wisdom, understanding, or counsel can stand against the Lord. The battle may be real, but your situation is never greater than God.

If fear has been speaking louder than faith lately, this episode is a reminder to stop listening to the voice of the giant and start remembering the voice of God.

Faith That Pleases God

I'm gonna get straight into the word today, and we heard about Jacob and how he changed his fate. Hallelujah. How he had striven with God and with man and prevailed. Hallelujah. And we know from the book of Hebrews how important it is to go to God with faith. How important it is to have faith, because otherwise it's impossible to please him. And some of these scriptures are so hard and so deep. And you know, you should understand it in your spirit that the Bible says without faith it's impossible to please God. And I would love to be part of that list that pleases God. And um, you know, Jacob most definitely was, and as I said, he changed his fate from just being a man to turning into Israel, because when that duel happens, he says, Today you will no longer be Jacob but Israel. Hallelujah. And today I want to go deeper into this topic called faith. And I want to tell you it's one of the pillars that you and I need to build on for our life on this planet, for our walk with Jesus, our walk with God. It's one of those pillars. And I want to share today one of the most popular stories with you, which most of you will know. It's been shared over the globe, and you know, at some point in time you would have heard it. And if not, sit back and pay attention this morning because if you know it, it's uh it's going to be a great refresher for you. And if not, as I said, get ready to be amazed by the things that happened and the events that unfolded from the story that I'm about to share with you.

Why David And Goliath Matters

And if you've not guessed it yet, it's the story of David and Goliath. And I started with telling you that I want to get deeper into this topic of faith. And nothing best to share with you this beautiful story than David and Goliath. So I'm getting straight into it this morning, and I want to tell you that uh, I'll just give you a brief. You know, there was a man of God called Samuel, and God decides and tells him that you need to go to a particular home and anoint the next future king of Israel. And uh Samuel does so. He takes, you know, a horn of oil and he goes to somebody's house by the name of Jesse. Everything in the Bible is so amazingly beautiful. Let me tell you, Jesse used to live in Bethlehem. Hallelujah. And Samuel goes to the house of Jesse, and Jesse has got seven sons, the Bible says, and you know, um, he basically calls out to uh them one by one, Jesse, and he lines up his sons. And you know, everyone thought that based on their looks and their stature and their uh structure, that they would probably be picked as king. And he lines them all up one by one, and Samuel keeps flipping across each of them, saying, This is not the guy, this is not the guy, this is not the guy. In fact, the last son is not even in the lineup. And then Samuel turns around and asks Jesse, Do you have another son? And he says, Uh, yeah, he's he's in the field, he's a shepherd. And he probably thought, I didn't think you'd want to see him, but hey, I'll get him anyways. This is my version. But uh, anyway, he goes and he gets his last son, whose name is David, and the Bible says he's a shepherd and a ruddy boy. He was standing sheep in the field, and he calls him out from the field and he puts him there, and he's the one. Hallelujah. And the Bible says that Samuel anoints uh David with oil, the oil that he was carrying in the horn. And the Bible says that the spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. It's in the Bible, hallelujah, and so easy to skip. But the spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on, the Bible says, Hallelujah.

The Standoff And Goliath’s Threat

And let me tell you what's happening now. You know, the it's so happening that the Philistines uh, you know, it's a particular tribe, have come against Israel at the same time. It it the timelines are similar. So this has happened with David, he's been anointed as the future king of Israel by Samuel, and now there's the Philistine army that's come up against Israel, and now the Bible says, and you should know this, and as I said, I'm telling you the entire story from the beginning because if you know the story, great, sit back and it will be a refresher for you. And if you don't know it, pay attention because it's it's truly amazing. Now, these two armies are camped opposite each other, and let me tell you something on two sides of the mountain, the Bible says, and they decide that they will send out a champion, and as it goes, whoever beats the other person's champion will win, and whoever loses will become servitude to the other, will give in to servitude to the other, and there's this Philistine guy who comes forward challenging the Israelite army, asking them to send their champion, and the Bible describes this guy, his name was Goliath, and he was from a place called Gath. And the Bible describes this guy in such a way that it's it is so scary. But I'm gonna give you a few gists, and I know I've shared this before, but it's important to understand this beautiful morning because I I I will give you a different perspective on the story today. And this Philistine was so scary, the Bible says he came in front of the Israelite army for 40 days, both morning and evening, challenging the Israelite army for any challenger to step up against him. And for 40 days, twice a day, there was no response from Israel, because they were just scared of Goliath. And you'll say, Why were they scared of Goliath? I'll tell you why they were scared of Goliath. The Bible calls out, and depending on the version that you're reading, Goliath as someone who was six cubits and a span, which means he was approximately nine foot nine inches tall. I've seen some basketball players who're seven, seven, one. I haven't seen a human being who's nine foot nine inches tall. He was nine foot nine inches tall. That's almost ten feet for somebody who can perceive it. Most of your ceilings in your homes are not that high. And for those of you who had it have an imagination, you know you should go for it. Now, there's this soldier who's a 10-foot tall soldier, and he's wearing a bronze helmet on his head, and his armor alone is 82 kilograms. Just his armor. I can't even lift 82 kilograms of weight. His armor alone is 82 kilograms, which is 180 pounds for those of you who measure pounds. And he had brawn greaves, bronze greaves on his shins, and a bronze javelin stuck across his shoulder. Means the javelin, he was so big that the javelin was resting on his shoulder, across his shoulder. And the Bible says the head of his spear alone was seven kilograms or 16 pounds. This guy was intense, and he's coming in front of the Israelite army and he's challenging them for 40 days and 40 nights, twice over, and there's no one who can stand up. Now, let me tell you what's happening.

David’s Confidence Before King Saul

David has three elder brothers who are in the army, the Israelite army, and it so happens that his father gives him food and says, you know, leave the sheep today. Leave your tending and your, you know, your shepherding to someone else and go. I I can't go there today. So you go to the front end and you give your brothers food. So David goes, he leaves his flock and he takes the food and he goes to his brothers. And when he reaches there, he sees the commotion of this guy standing in front of the Israelite army, challenging them. Open challenge with no answer from Israel. And here's David's response to what he sees. And I'm giving it to you this morning. I'll tell you this beautiful story comes from the book of Samuel, 1 Samuel, but I'm not getting into the scripture just yet. So he turns around and he says, Who is this uncircumcised Philistine who challenges the armies of the living God? Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Who is this uncircumcised Philistine who challenges the armies of the living God? Hallelujah. I want to tell you, some of you I know can feel the presence of God right now. Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that's challenging the army, not even me? I want to tell you David knew something. There would have been a reason why he was anointed as king when he was a shepherd. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I actually have a very short word this morning, but I want to tell you, and I'm going to leave out the smaller details because that's not what I want to get into today. And it so happens that what King Saul hears this, king is King Saul is the king of Israel, by the way. And when he hears this, he decides to call David and talk to him. And he says, You know what? Like, will you go up against this child? And David is so confident that he says, I absolutely will. And this is Saul's response to him. He says, You're a youth. You're a young boy. And this man has been a warrior since youth. Of course, the world will tell you things like this, won't they? Hallelujah. You're just a youth. And this man you're going up against has been a warrior since youth. And listen now to what David tells the king. Hebrew says, without faith, it's impossible to please God. And I'll like to tell you that this next statement from David is just faith through and through. David, this man, is a warrior since youth, and you are just a youth. This is David's response from 1 Samuel 1737. 1 Samuel 1737. The Lord who has saved me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear. He will save me from the hand of this Philistine. The Lord who has delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear. He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I told you some of you will experience God today. You know, God is amazing. Jesus is amazing. The day you decide to take a step, He'll come running towards you. Anyway, that's the topic for another day. So he basically tells the king, My God, my God, has saved me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear. He will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine.

Dropping The Armor, Keeping The Call

Hallelujah. And as the events go on, Saul decides to give David a helmet, an armor, and a sword. And in fact, the Bible even says that he puts on all the armor and the sword. And since he's just a little shepherd and he's not used to these things, the Bible says that the armor goes onto the ground for David. Probably would have not been very tall, or as I said, he was just not a soldier, he was a shepherd. And then clearly it's not working for him. So he just takes it all off and he says, you know, leave it. And I'll tell you what he does. He takes a stick in his hand, he goes to the brook that's nearby, and he picks five smooth stones and he puts it in a shepherd's pouch. Hallelujah. He stays the way he is. Shepherd's pouch and all. And he takes five smooth stones, he puts it in his pouch. There are so many things that you can learn from all of this. And he takes a sling in his hand and he goes in front of Goliath. Oh, hallelujah. The world will tell you to change. David didn't need to. You don't need to. Hallelujah. Now let me tell you what happens when Goliath sees this young, smart, small boy, shepherd, stick, sling, and pouch and all in front of him, he gets extremely agitated. Now clearly he's been waiting for 40 days, twice over, and he's been challenging. And he clearly thinks that if somebody's gonna come now, they're gonna be one solid opponent. And he sees this young boy. And he comes with a stick and a sling and a pouch. And he turns around and he says, extremely agitated, Am I a dog? That you have sent, that you have come to me with sticks. And he curses David by his gods. Am I a dog that you have come to me with sticks? And then from 1745, the same book, the same chapter, David said to the Philistine, You come

I Come In The Name Of The Lord

to me with sword, a spear, and a saber, and I come to you in the name of the Lord, the God of the armies of Israel, who you have taunted. Oh, hallelujah! Oh, hallelujah. David is just a shepherd, he's standing in front of a ten-foot, almost ten-foot giant. And he says, You come to me with spear and sword and javelin, and I come to you in the name of the Lord. Hallelujah! The God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. Oh, hallelujah! Hallelujah! And then he says, Today the Lord will deliver you into my hands and I will strike you down. Today, the Lord will deliver you into my hands and I will strike you down. Amen. Hallelujah. Do you see any hint of doubt in the way David even speaks? And here is the crux of today's word, and this is what I want to leave you with this morning, and then all the assembly, if in the words of David, then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into my hands. Amen. Hallelujah. Then all the assembly will know that the Lord does not save with spear and sword, for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into my hands. Hallelujah. You need to understand, you need to understand what faith is this, what confidence is this? David looks at an almost ten-foot giant, a battled, hardened, horrible opponent, scary. But he knows and he understands that you can come to me with whatever. That you can come to me with whatever. I would love to have been there to see this. But there's not an ounce of doubt in David's mind. The moment he came there to give food to his brothers, he was like, What's going on? And why are you guys even sitting here taking this from this guy? Wait, I'm gonna take him on. He's not even a soldier, he's a shepherd. I come to you in the name of the Lord. Hallelujah. What faith is that? Hallelujah. I come to you in the name of the Lord. Hallelujah. Let me tell you how it pans out. David puts his hand in his pouch, he takes out one of those stones. The Bible says he went and he picked up five smooth stones from the book brook that's nearby. And as I said, some of you have an imagination, go for it. He stands in front of him. In fact, you know what? Goliath gives out a loud, loud cry after he makes this last statement. This entire assembly will know. For this battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into my hands. I think that was the last nail. For Goliath, he just did not like it. And he gives this loud war cry and he rushes towards David. And here's what happens: David rushes towards him too. And he puts his hand in his sling, uh uh in his shepherd's pouch. He takes out one stone, he puts it in the sling, and he hits Goliath on the forehead. The Bible says the stone sank into his forehead and he fell to the ground. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. The stone sank into his forehead and he fell

One Stone And A Finished Fight

to the ground. Hallelujah. I'm not getting into what David did after that. That's that disclaimer. But today I want you to take a moment and I want you to pause. And I only have one thing to ask you, and one thing that I'm gonna leave you with after this. One thing to ask, and one thing that I'm gonna leave you

How You Look At Your Goliath

with. And I want what I want to ask you this beautiful morning. I told you take a moment and pause, just stop, put everything down, let the noise of the world sit aside. And I'm gonna ask you, how do you look at your Goliaths of life? How do you look at your situations in life? How do you look at your mountains that come in front of you? And you'll say they're not the same, I'm not a soldier. No, they could be a health goliat, it could be a financial goliat, it could be a personal goliath, it could be a work goliath. How do you look at your Goliath in life? Pause and think about it. And right now, some of you can see certain things come in front of you. And I want to ask you, do you look at your Goliath like the Israelites did, who sat there quivering day and night with the taunts of the one who's coming in front of you twice a day, trembling with fear, and not choosing to confront it? Or do you look at your Goliath like David did? He was just a shepherd, he was not even a soldier, but who had an attitude of who are you and how dare you even. Challenge challenging me. How did you even challenge the coming from the perspective this morning? I want to tell you David and I come to you. Let me tell you, David did not even have the Lord. You and I didn't have a name. I want to leave it in front of you. And I want you to how you look at it, but I come bearing the name of the Lord. I want to rephrase that and say, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Hallelujah. Amen. Who are you? And how dare you even challenge me? Hallelujah. And for someone you're still battling, you're still battling this situation in your mind. And it's fine, it's it's totally normal. And here's something I want to leave you with. I told you I'm gonna I'm gonna ask you something, and then I'm gonna leave you with something. And this I want you to understand deep in your spirit. Accept it this morning, and you will know that this is for you coming from the most high. I want to tell you, David said, This assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear. The battle is the Lord's, and He has given you into my hands. Those are the words of David while he was standing in front of Goliath. I want to tell you, I don't I didn't see or hear any sense of doubt in any version of the Bible that you read, and you really should try it. If you have the app, go to the different versions of the Bible and read his words. You'll be like, this guy has just no doubt. Hallelujah. Coming back. This assembly will know that the Lord does not say with spear and sword. His battle is the Lord's. He will give you into my hands. He will give you into my hands. Let me tell you what the assembly is talking about. This assembly shall know. The assembly, my wonderful friends and brothers and sisters, the audience are the armies of two countries. I think you missed it. David was standing in front of the armies of two countries and saying, This entire assembly will see how the Lord saves. Hallelujah. Amen. The battle is the Lord's, it's not mine, it's the Lord's. And he will give you into my hands. Amen. That was the conference of David. That two armies, three armies, five armies, fifteen armies. It wouldn't matter to David. And that's why he was David. And from his line came Jesus, by the way. Hallelujah.

Prepare Well And Trust Deliverance

And here's the secret from the book of life. And you should mark this down, and I will explain it to you. Proverbs 21:30. Hallelujah. Proverbs 21:30. Lord will fill you with wisdom to understand this. There is no wisdom or understanding or counsel against the Lord. There is no wisdom or understanding or counsel against the Lord. Let me explain this to you before you read. This means no worldly wisdom can encompass how God is going to do it for you. Amen. David knew it, which is why he said, I don't need spear and sword. You come to me with spear and sword, but I don't need spear and sword. There is no wisdom or understanding or even counsel against the Lord. Hallelujah. And then see what the next line says. The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord. Amen. Amen. Amen. The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the deliverance is of the Lord. And let me tell you what this means this morning. You need to be prepared. David was prepared. He took a stick. He took a sling. He went and he picked up five smooth stones. He did what he had to do. He knew the Lord is going to deliver him into his hands. He knew the Lord has saved him before from the bear and the lion. But I want to tell you that's what this passage of scripture means. Hallelujah. The horse is prepared for the day of battle. You do what you need to do. And so did David. He went to the brook. He threw out his armor. He went to the brook. He picked up the five stones. He took a sling and he took a stick. That is what it means by preparing the horse for the battle. But the deliverance will come from the Lord. Amen. But you need to do your due diligence, diligence, and that's what this word means. Because mark it down, mark it down. Proverbs, this is the book of wisdom. Proverbs is the book of wisdom, and the book of wisdom is telling you and me this morning there is no wisdom or understanding or even counsel against the Lord. You cannot even imagine how God is going to do it. You cannot imagine how God is going to do it for you. But you be prepared with what you need to do. Which is why Jesus on the throne said, Write it down and run with it. Write it down. I will do it. Amen. Hallelujah. Some of you can feel the presence of God in the next level. Hallelujah. The battle does not belong to you, the battle is the Lord's. He will give it into your hands. The horse is prepared for the day of battle. Deliverance will come from the Lord. Hallelujah.

Prayer For Victory And Peace

I'd like to pray. Thank you for this beautiful day. I thank you for this beautiful word. Thank you, Lord, for your double-edged sword that does not go back until it has achieved what it has been set out for. Hallelujah. I thank you, Lord, that you are watching over your word to perform it. I thank you, Lord, that you have laid down the rules for the opponent to follow where he has no option. I thank you, Lord. These battles, all these battles of your people, your children, your sons, your daughters, we leave at your feet this morning. We bring them all and we leave them at your feet, and we know your mercies are new every morning. Your grace is new every morning. Through which we are not consumed. And through that, I thank you that this battle does not belong to us. All these battles that we take this morning and we keep at your feet, they do not belong to us, but they are yours. Victory, Lord, is ours. In the name that's above all names. Hallelujah. Thank you, Jesus, for your name that's above all names. Where every knee bows on the earth, above the earth, and below the earth, and we put your name into all these situations right now. And I thank you for the victory that's already been accomplished. In the name of Jesus, hallelujah. Thank you for your presence, Lord. Thank you for going ahead and making crooked paths straight. Thank you, Lord, for picking somebody up from the miry clay. Thank you, Lord, for shattering that gate. Thank you, Lord, for so many things that are happening right now. This battle, Lord, as David knew and we claim this morning, does not belong to us. This battle, Lord, belongs to you, and you will deliver us. Hallelujah. Deliverance, Lord, is yours. We leave everything at your feet, this beautiful morning. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus' name I pray.
